OKC Railway Museum | Caboose Ride 🚞

The OKC Railway Museum is a place where historic locomotives and railcars are preserved. Here, you can see a 1942 U.S. Army steam locomotive, a Santa Fe diesel engine, and passenger, freight, and maintenance cars from different eras. 🚂✨ The exhibits aren’t housed in a traditional building—instead, they’re set inside retired railcars! Each car has a different theme: some display railway tools and signal equipment, while others showcase photographs and archives of railroad history. Admission to the museum is free 🆓. From April to August, the museum offers short train rides on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for kids, and free for children under 3 sitting on a lap. You can choose from three types of cars: coach, open-air, or caboose. Note: the latter two have no air conditioning, and each offers a unique experience! I chose a seat in the cupola of the caboose 🚉—the very last car on the train. In the past, this was where conductors worked and rested. It’s equipped with a small desk, benches, and that iconic raised observation cupola you climb into via a ladder. From up there, you can see the entire train ahead and the tracks stretching out behind. 🛤️👀 This year’s train rides have ended, but the museum is already taking pre-sales for special steam locomotive events! Coming soon is the Leigh Valley Coal Company #126—a 1930s coal-fired steam engine nicknamed “Sadie.” 🔥🎟️ #OKC #OklahomaCity #SteamTrain #RailwayMuseum #Caboose
