Princess's Residence in "Roman Holiday"—Palazzo Barberini

Palazzo Barberini is located in the heart of Rome, Italy, at the intersection of Via del Tritone and Via delle Quattro Fontane. It is close to the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps, making it one of Rome's most important cultural landmarks. In the 1953 film "Roman Holiday," the embassy where Princess Ann stayed was filmed here, and it was from this location that she began her one-day tour of Rome. 🎬 The Barberini family was one of the most influential families in Rome during the 17th century, with Pope Urban VIII himself being a member. During his papacy, Palazzo Barberini became a center for culture and art, attracting numerous artists and scholars. It is said that three great architects were involved in creating this palace. Carlo Maderno started the project, but after his death in 1629, Francesco Borromini and Gian Lorenzo Bernini took over and completed the work in 1633. The palace's most famous square stairwell was designed by Bernini, while the oval helical staircase was designed by Borromini. The palace has a total of 187 rooms, and in many of the ceilings and statues, you can see the Barberini family's coat of arms: a bee. 🐝 Palazzo Barberini is a magnificent building that combines Renaissance and Baroque styles.
