Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow Spotted at One of Chicago’s Best Japanese Restaurants—Here’s What to Know
Last week, on Thursday, August 28, Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow, the co-stars of Iron Man, were spotted having lunch at MICHELIN-recognized TenGoku Aburiya. It’s no wonder they were dining there; the intimate izakaya gastropub is considered one of the city’s best-kept foodie secrets. It’s a favorite hangout for Chicago’s top chefs on their days off, and it seems to be a favorite among celebrities as well. According to the TenGoku Aburiya team, the two ordered a selection of items from the restaurant’s izakaya-style menu , including an assortment of sushi, bento boxes, and karaage gyoza. And now, if you’re itching to try it, they have a special upcoming event. TenGoku Aburiya and its sister restaurant , MICHELIN-recognized Omakase Yume, are hosting a kappo-style omakase dinner, Kappo Ten. For this edition, TenGoku’s head chef, Danny Rodriguez, will partner with Certified Sake Specialist Kimiyo Michaeli of Cream Wine & Spirits for an in-depth sake pairing. The opening plates, including chawanmushi (a delicate steamed egg custard) and otoro tartare, are paired with Masumi Origarami Sparkling from Nagano, a bright sake with refreshing acidity and savory umami notes. From there, guests continue their journey through Japanese sakes , accompanied by dishes such as maguro no yamakake, wagyu sukiyaki, and gohan nigiri. The evening concludes with a sweet dessert paired with Tsuru-Ume Yuzu Sake by Heiwa, a citrus-forward sake that offers a vibrant, refreshing finish. This one-night-only dinner is limited to a single six-guest seating. When is TenGoku Aburiya’s Kappo Ten dinner? ----------------------------------------------- On Thursday, September 18, at 7:00 p.m., Reservations are available here; tickets are $210 per person, inclusive of the 14-course omakase and sake pairings.
