🟣 Temple of Antoninus and Faustina Built in AD 141, this temple was originally erected by Antoninus Pius, one of the Five Good Emperors, in memory of his deceased wife, Faustina the Elder. After Antoninus’s death in AD 161 and his deification, Marcus Aurelius transformed the temple into a memorial for both of them. This temple is a classic example of a Roman high podium temple, featuring an impressive façade with eight Corinthian columns. Around the 7th century, the temple was converted into the Catholic church San Lorenzo in Miranda, which is the structure we see today, with the Corinthian columned façade nestled within the church’s architecture. 🖼️ Restoration Illustration of the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina 🗺️ Location of the Temple of Antoninus and Faustina on the Map #HistoricalArchitecture #TravelMemories #CulturalLandmarks #Wanderlust #TravelDiaries #Sunshine #RomanForum #RuinsOfTheRomanForum #RomeSquare #RomanEmpire #RomanRepublic
