S.K.Y | Asian Fusion Still Feels Like a Mirage
Just like reading certain essays where you can tell the author is smug about their word choices, a few dishes at S.K.Y give off the same "chef is a little too pleased with themselves" vibe β resulting in praise that misses the mark ποΈ π Six Spice Pork Noodle β tastes like instant noodles (Zengbanmian style) with a blast of thirteen-spice powder that feels like it was dumped straight from the packet. Doesnβt blend well with the noodles, and honestly disrespects both wide noodles and spices alike. π Sashimi β thank you, Japanese chili oil enthusiastβ¦ but this just tasted like bottled chili oil from a ramen shop. Pretty basic. π¦ Foie Gras Bibimbap β actually not bad! Tastes like classic stone pot bibimbap. The foie gras is braised and a bit bitter; the shiitake mushrooms also lean sour-bitter. π© Black Sesame Funnel Cake β the best dish of the night! Tastes like a cross between funnel cake and donut batter β delicious. π Fried Chicken β honestly baffling. The soul of fried chicken is finger-licking goodness, but this one requires a knife and fork. Also had a strong chicken smell, like two back thigh pieces patched together. π Salmon Potstickers & π Pineapple Cheesecake The salmon was cooked perfectly. The cheesecake was rough β tasted like ricotta, with a weird grainy texture and watery seepage. Overall ππποΈ β might return just for the salmon and black sesame donut. π S.K.Y 1239 W 18th St #Chicago #ChicagoLife #ChicagoEats #FusionCuisine π½οΈβ¨
