Shine — Chicago’s Best Shanghainese Spot 🥢

Haven’t been in a while — Shine is really the kind of place you need a group to enjoy fully. Grabbed a bunch of friends and headed back for a weekend feast! 🥢 Squirrel-style yellow croaker — sweet and sour, perfect for my American friends. They even scraped the plate clean, pine nuts, corn, peas and all! 🥢 Five-spice beef shank — deeply aromatic, and I was thrilled it was made with tendon meat. 🥢 Shaoxing-style poached chicken — tender, juicy, with a hint of pink near the bone. Lightly seasoned but still flavorful. 🥢 Pork and eggplant hotpot — my American friends loved this so much last time they downed three bowls of rice with it. 🍚🔥 🥢 Scallion-braised pork chop — after having schnitzel recently, I kept dreaming of this dish. Savory, tender, and deeply satisfying. 🥢 Shepherd’s purse with shredded chicken and rice cakes — thinly sliced rice cakes stir-fried with plenty of greens and chicken. Silky, comforting, and delicious. 🥢 Stuffed wheat gluten with pork — the only okay dish of the night. The meatballs were a bit dry, but the flavor was still good. 🥢 Honey-glazed lotus root stuffed with sticky rice — technically an appetizer, but it makes a perfect dessert! 📌 Remember to pre-order when you make a reservation — walk-ins are limited to sushi only.
