The Understated Capital of New York State – Albany

Many people assume New York City is the capital of New York State, but it’s actually a small city called Albany. If I hadn’t researched before my long trip, I would never have known about this place. 📍 New York State Capitol State St. and Washington Ave, Albany, NY 12224 This was the third capitol building I’ve visited on my trip. Rather than a government hall, it felt more like a grand castle. 📍 Empire State Plaza 100 S Mall Arterial, Albany, NY 12242 All of Albany’s famous landmarks are concentrated here. The fact that it’s named “Empire” tells you just how significant this plaza is to the city—and even to all of New York State. 📍 Erastus Corning II Tower 100 S Mall Arterial, Albany, NY 12210 Take the elevator directly to the 42nd floor, where an observation deck offers panoramic views of the entire city. Note: It’s only open on weekdays and closes at 4 PM—don’t miss the timing if you plan to visit! 📍 The Egg Agency Building 1, S Mall Arterial, Albany, NY 12203 Yes, this building is literally called “The Egg” 🥚. Rumor has it, it’s a theater shaped like an egg. I found it amusing, so I’m including it here to pad the word count (just kidding!). 📍 New York State Museum 222 Madison Ave, Albany, NY 12230 Though most exhibits focus on New York State’s history and development, the content is far from boring—it’s truly worth exploring. From humanities to history, the museum covers everything: from the glacial era’s barren landscapes to the rise of global trade centers, and from the days of logging and mining to the birth of modern skyscrapers. #Albany #NYState #NewYorkState#Albanyguide#Albanylife#TheEgg#travelguide#Albanydiary
