The Erastus Corning Tower was completed in 1973 and sports 44 stories. Floor 42 is an observation deck that offers a breathtaking nearly 360 view of Albany and outlying areas. The Tower is often artfully lit up in custom fashion for special occasions, most recently during the COVID pandemic with the words "NY TOUGH" on either side. The Tower serves as an important seat of NY government, providing critical working space for many DOH and OGS employees. The view from the top is amazing, especially of the Hudson River and the intricate network of highways that converge on the interchange near the river. There is a designated elevator on the ground floor that takes you directly to the observatory. Once on top, you'll be greeted by the nicest, most pleasant staff you'll ever meet!
