The Erastus Corning Tower was completed in 1973 and sports 44 stories. Floor 42 is an observation deck that offers a breathtaking nearly 360 view of Albany and outlying areas. The Tower is often artfully lit up in custom fashion for special occasions, most recently during the COVID pandemic with the words "NY TOUGH" on either side. The Tower serves as an important seat of NY government, providing critical working space for many DOH and OGS employees. The Tower is also the epicenter of events in Albany, like fireworks and holiday displays. In addition, there are some interesting artworks to be found on the Plaza level of the Tower. If you descend down to the Concourse level (from the Plaza) you can also view more artwork, or get some food (when...

One of the nicest FREE attractions on Empire State Plaza. The view from the top is amazing, especially of the Hudson River and the intricate network of highways that converge on the interchange near the river. Outdoor plaza (Empire State Plaza) accommodates all sorts of activities and events throughout the year - music festivals, Christmas tree lighting, winter ice skating, etc.

The tower itself offers fantastic views of the capital region and is a place I love to bring visitors or people who are new to the area.

You can park on the street and walk straight into the tower itself to get to the elevator that will swiftly take you to the observation deck, or park underneath the plaza, take the elevator to the concourse, and follow the signs. If you park underneath the concourse, it usually costs $5. If you're there for under half an hour, they...
