Girl Named Tom at the Egg in Albany Hart Theatre at the Egg - Albany My wife and I really loved a girl named Tom from the first performance we saw on the voice all the way through to the end Ironically a few weeks ago I was thinking about them and decided to see if they are performing and I was happy to see that they were going to be in Albany although that is 160 miles away from us and a 320 mile round-trip on a work night. It was the closest that they would be performing in the upcoming year so we decided to do it anyway. It was a beautiful venue Our seats were great We were not really happy with the plan from the organizers to have warm up singer come up first for 30 minutes and perform on stage with one microphone and a separate amplifier for her accompaniest, and then they put the lights up and took a 20 minute break before a girl name Tom came on stage. That meant that the performance really begin at 10 minutes before nine !!! There is no reason that right after the warm-up person, they could’ve put a girl name Tom up, even if it meant taking a 20 minute break in the middle of their performance Beckah was incredible as a performer and singer I really enjoyed all the songs that they did from the show that they played there on mute musical arrangements and they were rather on the slow side A girl named Tom played until 1015, which was under an hour and a half performance, and by the time we got out of the theater and into our car at home it was 1 AM Again, the improvements to the night would’ve been if a girl name Tom got up and performed as soon as the warm-up was over and also I think a girl named Tom should’ve done more upbeat songs when it was time to do songs outside of the ones that they performed...
Read moreAfter many great shows in this venue I attended the Los Lobos concert on March 5th. After the show I gave their stage manager a beaded medallion for David Hidalgo. I was told to wait at the stage for him to return. Not more than a minute after being asked to wait a security worker (bald, 5'10ish" and 350 lbs.) asked us to leave. I politely explained I was asked to wait by Los Lobos's stage manager and also noted there was a row of people still seated not having to leave. The security worker interrupted me and yelled repeatedly, "No, No, No, get out!" The folks that were still seated looked shocked and I was embarrassed. They were allowed to stay and I left with my wife not wanting to press the issue or cause complaint at the time. Another patron who was given a setlist tried to gift it to me after seeing what happened and apologized. He noted it was embarrassing and uncomfortable.
The beadwork was an Indigenous family piece and I had waited a long time to gift it to David. I loved seeing them perform at the Egg and have been to many shows because I like the venue and staff there. In this instance, I was not out of place as many folks were getting setlists and picks from the stage crew. As an Indigenous person, as a professional, and semi-regular patron, I felt I was treated extremely disrespectfully and unkind, as others were allowed to stay.
Every time I have attended a show, the staff have been so kind and helpful. The elevator operator I see regularly is a favorite. He even asked where the medallion went as we left. I can only say I hope David got it, but will never know. I am still bothered by the treatment of the worker and do not plan on...
Read moreI have only been to the egg once, and it was to see John Petrucci of Dream Theaters solo tour. It was a little confusing getting to the venue, but once we arrived it was very nice. I did not expect a venue like the egg to host a rock/metal show with how nice it was inside. Taking a elevator up with a designated staff member was a first for me. Once we got to the venue we got waters and merch at the designated area, and went to go find our spots.
The staff was very good at helping us find our section and area of the theater.
Once we sat down the show started, maybe I missed a memo but I didn’t know that you couldn’t record the show, so I had a event staff come up to me and tell me to stop recording, but pictures were allowed. Which I respect and appreciate the staff member for doing his job, I wish I would have known before entering the show, that way I wouldn’t record the show! I did get a couple pictures from the show that I will attach. But that was mainly the only reason I gave it four stars, and while it’s probably in their rules, or maybe it was only enforced at that show due to the musicians, I felt clueless and left out.
I definitely recommend visiting however, and hope they bring more rock and metal related bands to the theater. I can definitely see more sophisticated prog metal bands playing the venue...
