Public transit around town has been full of big ideas lately. Then, what started in June 2025 as a free, electric ride‐on‐demand shuttle has quickly become a favorite way to get around. And since January 28, 2026, is entering its next phase: introducing a small, super‐simple fare designed to keep it affordable while improving service. How the Whittier Cruiser works ---------------------------------- The idea is simple: instead of fixed bus routes, riders use an app to request a pickup and drop‐off within the service area. The vehicle adjusts its path on the fly, picking up people heading in the same direction. Like a carpooling service with a designated driver. Under the new fare structure, riders will pay just $3 per person, or a flat $6 for groups of two to five. The change comes as part of the ongoing pilot program, which now runs through July 2026 and aims to test how fares affect overall experience, wait times, and reliability.
