Welcome to Richman's Park, aka Hellman Park. The most beautiful preserve full of nature & stunning views - for the rich residents only. A truly stunning & wonderful stretch of canyon, the state of California has ensured that no common peasants will get in your way. To that end, they have shut down the only parking lot to the trail, then posted "permit only parking" on every single street to ensure none of the dirty masses dares to interrupt the scenery with their poverty. Creating an entire nature preserve for the wealthy residents, who are the only people allowed within range of the park. Of course, in the interest of appeasing a few lucky of the poor plebians, there's a small parking spot near the gate that will just barely fit three cars. Which is still three cars too many, but we would be unable use everyone's taxes to keep up the park if it's not technically a "public" park. So some concessions must be made; though painful as they are, having the unwashed masses free to enjoy such splendor. If any of you commoners would like to hike the park, you're first going to have the privilege of hiking TO it. The nearest parking can be found where you belong: a mile or more from the rest of civilized society. It's a fair trade, as you must prove your honest intentions by hiking uphill to the trailhead first. Only then can you begin the actually trail, & hopefully you tire out & just go home where you belong. Hellman's is simply too beautiful to be sullied by those unworthy. Perhaps look into buying real estate in our exclusive enclave, & only then do you earn the right to freely park & enter the preserve. Btw, the same goes for nearby Turnbull Canyon. Another stunning piece of California with exquisite views - though only for the worthy. Stop your car or simply pull over, & our excellent police force will be sure you get a ticket. These views are for those above a certain tax bracket. You & your Honda Civic don't...

Hellman Park Trailhead is a wonderful hiking destination that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves the great outdoors. The park is located in Whittier, California, and offers a variety of trails that are suitable for hikers of all levels.

One of my favorite experiences at Hellman Park Trailhead was when I went birdwatching with a friend. As soon as we started hiking, we were surrounded by the sounds of different bird species. It was as if the trees were alive with the chirping and tweeting of birds.

As we continued on the trail, we saw a wide variety of birds. Some were small and colorful, while others were large and majestic. We even saw a few birds of prey soaring high above us, searching for their next meal. I was amazed at how many different species of birds could be found in this small park.

One of the highlights of our birdwatching adventure was when we saw a pair of California towhees. These birds are known for their distinctive appearance, with their rust-colored feathers and white spots on their wings. They were hopping around on the ground, searching for insects to eat. We were able to observe them from a distance, and it was a truly amazing sight.

The park is well-maintained and has a peaceful atmosphere, which makes it the perfect place to connect with nature. Whether you're an experienced hiker or just looking for a relaxing walk, Hellman Park Trailhead has something to offer. The birdwatching experience was just the icing on the cake for me, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves birdwatching or just wants to enjoy the...

I would say it is a good enough trails. There are plenty of trails for you to choose. In this season, the weather is quite nice to hike. However the place will be more beautiful in summer, fyi. There many wild animals here, especially birds. If you noticed, there more than 8 birds species. I can’t take all the photos of them but I’m sure about the number. This trail is easy for walking but it will be a little hard when you going uphill a lot.

I don’t think they allow to park here. When I get here, people usually park at neighborhood areas. If you’re lucky enough, u will find one. Many people said that they allow to park before. But now, for some reasons, the gate to enter parking space is closed all the time.

You should also note about the opening and closing hours. Check on Google Maps...

Hellman is my local hike/trail and i am so grateful that it’s so close to home. Today i came with a friend and we arrived at 8:40am so we could get good parking. The park ranger opened the gates at 8:50am and we were able to go right in. Be aware that the parking for the hike is extremely limited and you are unable to park on the streets next to the entrance due to required permits. So arrive early if you want to make sure you get a spot. If you don’t, you will have to park a little far from the trail. There are several routes you can take while doing this hike. One is typically the harder than the other which is nice because you can change routes as you go. On a clear day the view from the top is spectacular!

It's definitely a 4.5 star trail rated path. There are many paths, but this one is hard, steep, grueling at times, not for first-timers. No bikers allowed. Take water, trail to towers is around 1.5 to 2 miles ... round trip around 4 miles. Parking is hard. Just make sure you follow parking signs. None, at park site, unless you arrive at 5am or get lucky. If you have jogged hiked or ran trails before and have experience in 4 to 6 mile trips, then you should be okay. But those just visiting, try another trail before this one. They close early, around 5/ 6 pm. The best times are around 6am to 9am. Leash pets pets please, and clean after yourself, don't litter!
