Trying José Andrés’ New Chicago Spot [2] — Bar Mar 🐟

Alongside Bazaar Meat (which I covered earlier), José Andrés also just opened Bar Mar right downstairs. While Bazaar focuses on meat, Bar Mar leans into seafood with flair. 🐚 Two Tiny Cones (each about the size of a finger!) One with caviar, the other an off‑menu uni (sea urchin) cone — both delicious little bites. 🍄 Abalone & Shiitake Topped with marinated matsutake mushroom, layered with crispy seaweed, and finished with fresh abalone sashimi underneath — highly recommend! 🥬 Endive Cups Filled with anchovy‑infused dressing and showered with grated cheese. I loved it, but if you’re not into anchovies, maybe skip this one. 🍹 Complimentary Frozen Margarita Bright, tangy, and refreshing — a perfect palate cleanser. 🐙 Gift Dish: Octopus (They sent this over after a small payment hiccup — so kind!) Even more flavorful than the octopus I tried at Jaleo, tender and paired with soft, savory roasted potatoes. Absolutely delicious. 💁‍♂️ Beyond the food, the service here was exceptional — attentive, generous with extras, and frequently checking in to make sure everything met our expectations.
