Visiting The Bear’s Ever in Chicago 🐻
Tried the new menu at Ever to start the year — some dishes were so good I wanted seconds, while others were complete misses 😅: 🥟 Oscietra Grand Reserve Caviar Crispy fried balls with chestnut purée inside — sweet and creamy. Coated in cilantro sauce, refreshing and not greasy. 🦀 King Crab Seasoning updated from the last menu — still comes with crispy flakes to mix in for extra texture. Less tangy this time, more to my taste! 🥥 Coconut Same Thai-inspired vibe as before — tender chicken breast, crispy baby potatoes. But the broth was so sour it hit the back of my gums 😖! 🐟 Sablefish Another interactive dish — feels like it’s trying to stand out! Pumpkin purée was smooth, though pumpkin in January felt a bit unexpected. The dumpling had a unique texture — silky, more like a little mochi ball than traditional dumplings. Black garlic flavor was strong, almost overpowering. 🐷 Pork Cheek Surprisingly delicious — pork was tender and flavorful. Served with mint sauce (which appeared in multiple courses — nice for continuity but got repetitive). 🥩 Miyazaki Wagyu Broccoli purée beside the wagyu was a smart touch — cut through the richness. Served over purple rice for added texture, keeping it balanced. 🍐 Pear Dessert Date cake stood out, though the chocolate was a bit heavy toward the end — got overly sweet. Visually creative and thoughtfully presented! 🍫 Persimmon Dessert Chocolate shaped like noodles with strong cinnamon notes. Each flavor was distinct but didn’t quite harmonize. The mint leaf + red sauce combo turned bitter — like, really bitter 😬. We joked: “We’re eating bitter food at a two-Michelin-star restaurant.” 🍬 Tinies Sweet-tart balance — a refreshing finish. Overall, some hits, some misses — but always an experience! #ChicagoEats #ChicagoFoodFinds #ChicagoRestaurants #Chicago #Michelin #FrenchCuisine
