🍶 Wabi-Sabi Style Izakaya in Chicago’s South Loop 🌿

Just discovered Mikami Izakaya in South Loop and wow—the atmosphere is everything! This spot embraces the beauty of wabi-sabi with its minimalist, nature-inspired aesthetic. Here’s what makes the vibe so special: 🛋️ First, the layout. The space feels open and thoughtful. Even though the restaurant is fairly large, the seating is intentionally limited. There’s plenty of room between the bar and the dining area—no cramming here! 🌊 Then, the walls. So much poetic emptiness—only simple light fixtures, no clutter. The upper walls have a soft, sandy texture that feels calm and still, while the lower section is made of small, irregular white tiles that look like rolling waves. It’s a quiet dance between stillness and motion. So soothing! 🍽️ Now the food! We ordered: Tonkotsu Ramen 🍜 — rich, creamy broth with perfectly cooked noodles Katsu Plate 🍛 — crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, served with fresh salad and steamed rice Gyoza 🥟 — light, delicate, and not too oily Everything was delicious and well-prepared. Definitely coming back! 🎞️ Visited on: August 24, 2025 📍 Location: Mikami Izakaya & Ramen → 1400 S Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL, 60605 🧾 What we paid (after tax): $52.53 Have you been here?
