What to Do in Atlanta?

Since coming back, the question I’ve been asked the most is: “What is there to do in Atlanta?” 🏙️ I spent just over 4 days there—one and a half of which were dedicated to Stranger Things filming locations (see my other post!)—but three full days felt nicely packed with activities. 🏨 Hotel Architecture The Marriott Marquis and Hyatt Regency, both designed by John Portman, are iconic for their soaring atrium spaces and futuristic vertical transportation—said to have inspired the TVA in Loki! 🖼️ High Museum of Art The permanent collection includes European paintings—solid but not mind-blowing—while the American art section stood out more. The special exhibition (currently Viktor & Rolf) was bold, avant-garde, and drew the biggest crowds. 🥤 World of Coca-Cola Interactive and fun! You can create your own soda blend and sample beverages from around the world (tried every flavor—maybe too much caffeine though, couldn’t sleep that night! 😅). 🎭 Center for Puppetry Arts A true hidden gem! Not only does it feature famous Sesame Street puppets, but also puppets from cultures worldwide. Seasonal puppet shows require separate tickets but are highly recommended. 🐋 Georgia Aquarium The largest aquarium in North America. Spent half a day here—highlights include whale sharks, dolphins, and sea lion shows. 🌳 Atlanta Botanical Garden Visited during the holiday light display, once named best in the U.S. Absolutely beautiful, though quite chilly outside in winter! ❄️ 🏛️ Georgia State Capitol Classic and stately—gives off a bit of that “old money” vibe. 🎡 Centennial Olympic Park Right next to the aquarium and Coca-Cola World. Not much to do, but the small Ferris wheel nearby offers lovely views at dusk. ✊ Martin Luther King Jr. Historic Sites The Center for Civil and Human Rights: Text-heavy but meaningful for history lovers. The King Center & Birth Home: Learn about Dr. King’s life (birth home is under renovation, so interior tours aren’t available currently). 🦕 Fernbank Museum Honestly, the weakest spot. The grand dinosaur skeleton in the lobby is a replica, and other exhibits felt sparse. A bit out of the way—I’d skip it. #AtlantaTravel #ThingsToDoInAtlanta #GeorgiaGuide #TravelUSA #CityBreak #FamilyTravel
