You Can Take a Free Tour of the Obama Center Campus This Fall
Work on the Obama Presidential Center (OBC) is almost complete— and Chicagoans can get an exclusive look at the 19.3 acre campus this fall. The Obama Foundation will host several public tours of the Jackson Park construction site this fall, as first reported by the Hyde Park Herald. The guided tours will take guests around the multi-building premises, which include a 225-foot-tall museum tower, vegetable garden, and Chicago Public Library branch. The Obama Center’s road to completion ------------------------------------- Construction on the OBC began in 2021 and is set to conclude by 2026. The sprawling complex will serve as an economic anchor, while bringing cultural and educational opportunities to the South Side. Projections from the Mayor’s office estimate the OBC will generate 700,000 annual visitors, 5,000 total jobs, and $3 billion in economic impact. Tour schedule ------------- Public tours of the OBC campus (6001 S Stony Island Ave) will take place on the following dates this fall: * Tuesday, September 30 – 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. * Saturday, October 18 – 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. * Saturday, November 15 – 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Preregistration is not required.
