Sophra Restaurant Saranda , A Day of Traditional Albanian Dining in Saranda
Morning Delight: A Breakfast to Remember
My morning at Sophra started on a whim. I was just looking for a quick, convenient place to grab breakfast as I explored Saranda. After a quick 'restaurant near me' search, I walked into Sophra, attracted by its promise of traditional Albanian food and seaside views.
The atmosphere was laid-back and welcoming right from the start. I settled in with a fresh orange juice and decided on the traditional Albanian breakfast. It was straightforward and hearty—exactly what I needed to start the day. The meal wasn't fancy, but the freshness of the ingredients spoke volumes. As I enjoyed my breakfast, the relaxing sound of the waves and the friendly chatter around me set a lovely tone for the day.
Tip: Arrive around 09:30 AM to avoid the crowds and enjoy a peaceful breakfast experience.
Evening Satisfaction: A Return for Dinner
Encouraged by my morning experience, I returned to Sophra for dinner. I was curious about their grilled fish, which I heard was a must-try from the waiter earlier that day. The evening vibe was just as pleasant, with a beautiful view of the sunset over the sea adding a special touch to the meal.
The grilled fish did not disappoint. It was beautifully cooked, with flavors that showcased traditional Albanian seasoning. The simplicity of the meal highlighted the quality of the ingredients—a hallmark of true local cuisine. Again, the service was down-to-earth and attentive, embodying the traditional hospitality they're known for.
Tip: For dinner, try to get there around 18:30. Any later and the place gets a bit too crowded, especially if you're hoping to catch the sunset.

Read moreWe visited this establishment with high expectations, informed by the many favorable reviews found online. Unfortunately, our experience fell dramatically short of what had been promised.
The dish I ordered — oven-baked lamb, specifically recommended by their staff — bore no resemblance to such a preparation. What arrived at the table was a lukewarm lamb stew, suspiciously reminiscent of a reheated dish from the previous day. Alongside it came a portion of fries which, although not requested nor offered as a selectable side, were presumably the default accompaniment. These, too, were served cold, their texture limp and rubbery, once again suggesting they had been prepared well in advance and left to deteriorate.
The second dish, a stewed fish, was acceptable in terms of doneness but entirely uninspired in flavor. The “roasted vegetables” served alongside consisted of four thin slices — a perfunctory gesture more than a side dish.
Also the service was disappointing. When I expressed my concerns to the waiter, I received a merely “okay.” Furthermore, when I asked for a description of the dishes prior to ordering, I was advised to consult Google, as the staff was unable to provide...
