I was really excited to see that there was a Mexican Taco place in Calafate although it was a bit put of town, I didn't mind the drive. However once we entered the only table occupied was by the owner and some lady he was chatting up. We sat down and the waitress tossed the menus on the table and walked away without a word. After 2 minutes she returned and said "listos?" (Ready?). So I replied with "Hola buenas tardes, como le va?" (Hello good afternoon, how is it going?) Because that should've been the greeting one would receive in a restaurant. She said no word and just forced a smile with attitude. So I asked for a few more minutes to look at the menu, but in the meantime, a coke. While she went to grab the can of coke I stayed seated watching the owner go behind the bar and pour himself and company more drinks and return to his seat (which was 4 ft from my own). We decided then that we did not want to support a business where there is no pride in the service. When she returned we kindly told her not to open the coca cola as we would not be staying and left. I cannot comment on the quality of the food as we did not eat, however, the service and ambiance was terrible. Definitely a business surviving off the desperate hunger of people leaving the...
Read moreMexican food always hits the spot and this was delicious! Located next to the omnibus terminal, Mexico Street Food is a lovely spot to get some amazing food.
We came off the bus from El Chalten and it was just what we craved. The restaurant is very nice and cozy, the staff is simply lovely and very helpful. The food is freaking delicious! I could have eaten the whole menu but the portions are great. The fried chicken appetizer was juicy, tender and perfect to start with. The chicken taco was plentiful, fresh and great in taste. But the star of our meal was the chicken quesadilla! It's massive, cheesy, fresh and just simply amazing. I greatly recommend getting the quesadilla but frankly, you'll be good with everything on the menu.
The location is a bit of a walk from the city centre but it's definitely worth it! If they had a spot in the centre this would easily be one of the hot spots in El Calafate. So do yourself a favour and check it out!...
Read moreWow! Stop what you're doing and go to this place. Two weeks in Mexico, but the food here is in my top favorites. Not many places in Calafate that offer such good quality vegetarian dishes.
We had a shared platter for about 13,5k with different small portions such as tacos, quesedillas, nachos, corn.. and we loved it! This plus a beer was enough for us, but if you're a big eater there are enough other options as well. I saw the burrito's, they were quite big and looked goooood.
One thing that could be improved in my opinion, is to play Mexican music instead of what feels to me like 'tourist music' (pop/dance).
PS they opened at 19.00, we were there around 19.15 (on a Thursday) and there was one spot left as there are not so many tables, so come on time or share a table or be prepared...
