The first thing you see when you sit at the table in this fancy restaurant is the etimology of the word Bistro. The table paper describes how the word comes from Russian "quick" but for the French means a sort of family restaurant. It fails to tell though that Bistro stands dor simple homemade food, and I want to highlight the word simple as in sophisticated and opposed to simple ordinary food.
The personnel at Ana Bistro was great, they cared for us even while doing our reservation. We came in person to reserve beforehand and they let us choose our table in advance -- and later change it when we didn't like it--. They were also very careful and tried to deal with our wishes, even as we were dissapointed. So, good for personnel.
We could not evaluate the whole menu. I had a clear idea of what I wanted to order -- Ribeye steak in Champignon sauce with millefeuille-- my wife chose the pork bondiola au roquefort with millefeuille. For starters we took a pumpkin soupe with goat cheese. The starter was good. It had a good contrast of tastes between the pumpkin, the cheese and the spices that made it nice. But, it went cold really fast, which leaves a bit of thought whether it was reheated. The main course was also good. I felt the champignon sauce was rather scarce for the size of the ribeye steak, but it was ok in general. I must admit that, knowing that the law requres restaurants to use less salt, I've become more lenient. Otherwise, I would say it was less than ok, as you would realize the lack of salt, even if the dish was otherwise well seasoned. We enjoyed the main dish, even though we had to change the wine. The dessert and coffee left a lot to be desired. The coffee was leterally undrinkable, we had to leave it aside. We wanted a Creme Brulle. It is my favourite dessert, and my wife just wished to share. It was really dissappointing that I could not even finish it. Creme Brulee is a rather simple dessert (compared with others) and I had to leave it aside. As said, the personnel was nice enough to claim it, and ask if it could be replaced, but it was one of those times you know getting just another bad coffee will not help, and the Creme Brulee will not get better so we desisted. They were nice enough not to charge for whate we did not finish. Still, being one of the top restaurants in Mendoza and defining itself as French, you simply cannot fail in these details.
In summary, I give this restaurant three stars. Price quality is simply not good enough. If you are in for a guaranteed nice evening, paying more for food may not get you the...
Read moreI wanted to like this place, I really did, but it was a bloody traninwreck from beginning to end. My GF and I got there at 19:45 and were informed that the kitchen didn't open until 20. Fair enough, we ordered some entrée and wine, which was promptly delivered. At 20 sharp we ordered the main courses, and HALF AN HOUR LATER we were informed that one of the dishes wasn't available. We chose something else, and we got it served at 21:10, a full one hour and 10 minutes after ordering for the first time. The food was mediocre, uninspired, and serving sizes on the small side. Not bad food per se, but certainly not worth the almost 15K we ended up paying (full disclosure, four of those were the wine). At this point I was already tired of waiting and didn't want to have dessert there, so we just asked for the check. Surprise surprise, they had included the original unavailable dish in the total amount. After complaining we got the proper bill, so we payed and left.
TL;DR: awful service, expensive but painfully regular food....
Read moreWe loved this restaurant and the food was so good we ate there several times in 3 weeks (5-6 times). Then we made the mistake of going there for New Years and not only was the food the worst we've ever had but it was one of the most expensive things we did in Mendoza. We spent almost $500.00 dollars and it was 5 adults and 2 children (no drinks included). We expected it to be their traditional menu or something better. Instead they brought in a different chef that had no clue what went with what, we had back to back raw fish, lamb that was prepared the wrong way and imposible to eat, a mix of different things that didn't go with anything else. This was supposed to be a 9 course meal and we were totally disappointed. We enjoyed every other visit there and for all those times they do deserve 5 stars 🌟 but because of the cost of the new years experience and how extremely awful it was I gave them 3 when I really wanted to give them 1. We will go back to eat there on regular days but never ever again for a 9 course...
