One of the four plazas surrounding Mendoza’s main square, Plaza Independencia, Plaza Italia is a peaceful and elegant tribute to the city’s Italian heritage. The square was originally called Lima, but in 1918 it was renamed to honor Italy and the many Italian immigrants who helped shape Mendoza in the 19th and 20th centuries.

At the center stands a beautiful marble monument created by sculptor Luis Perlotti, symbolizing the strong bond between Argentina and Italy. The plaza is lined with tall palm trees and shaded benches—perfect for relaxing, people-watching, or enjoying a quiet stroll.

Plaza Italia for me was a lot quieter than the other squares. Lacked atmosphere but definitely worth a visit. A nice place for a siesta! The name was chosen to pay tribute to the Italian community for their active social life in the Cuyo province.
