We asked our hotel for recommendations and they recommended this place over Aqva. Apparently the locals like this place more. Our hotel made reservations here and when we got to the restaurant, we were immediately seated.
We ordered the Dorado Tropical and Surubi Garganta del Diablo. Between the two dishes, I prefer the Dorado Tropical. It has mango and mango chutney. The sweetness helps with the grilled fish. They were able to get a nice sear on the skin and the fish was cooked well. I think the mango slices complimented the dorado more so than the chutney, but to each their own.
The surubi was surprisingly good. It's quite a meaty fish but combined with the sauce they made, the fish wasn't dry at all. I think if they served this fish as a filet, it would be dry and less appetizing. The mozzarella, tomates, and camarones (shrimp) all complimented the surubi. They gave tons of shrimps but the texture was similar to the surubi. Hence I think they added palmitos (hearts of palm) and mandioca (cassava) chips for contrast in texture. The colors of the dish were vibrant red, very appetizing.
Service was excellent. They made accommodations for the vegetarian in our party. When this place gets crowded, they are a little slow on the service as they are probably a little under staffed. The staff spoke decent English.
As we did not get a chance to try Aqva, I can only say this is a solid restaurant and highly recommend to others if you're looking for fine dining in the area.
This restaurant deserves a solid 4 star. Do not be swayed by the current 3.5 stars it has on yelp. It is highly rated on...
Read moreFinding a restaurant in Iguazú that isn't a tourist trap is harder than you might think. Luckily La Rueda isn't one of them. Located a bit further away from the centre of town, the restaurant has an inviting look and atmosphere with a lot of seating options.
I fully understand the positive reviews and the restaurant was very busy. The menu has a lot of options to choose from and great Argentinian cuisine. The appetizer tasted delicious, my main dish was a bit left to the imagination. I expected a bit more from the reviews but it was oke. The other main dish was great so it evened out. I think they have a lot better dishes and specialties that are undoubtedly better (some of them weren't available) so take this with a grain of salt.
Despite having no reservation, we got the opportunity to wait in a side room and after 30 ish minutes a table opened up. It was great that they found a spot for us and I appreciate that a lot. However, we got the feeling that our presence troubled our waiter. He was professional and did what is expected but the way he came across and served us put a smidge on the experience. It felt like he was almost done working and we made him stay late. I rarely get the feeling that we bother the staff, especially in Argentina, but this did have a slight negative impact on the experience.
In the end it was an oke experience. There aren't many options in the city centre of Iguazu so La Rueda is one of the better options. Funnily enough the hotels have amazing food so take a...
Read moreWell came to this place due to recommendation of our host. Firstly, we couldn’t get sited. We waited for pretty long time (even it was 1 table outside and 3 inside), staff is not very welcoming (our waiter was pretty rude and zero care and absence of empathy). It feels like we waited forever for our food (any food!) to arrive. We were starving after the whole day in Iguazu. Then I couldn’t bear anymore and asked for a bread basket, which came in a few minutes later. It served the purpose along with our sparkling that we have to follow up on twice. When our meals came - for my husband it was absolutely cold (meaning - the dish was waiting for a while to be picked up) but my chicken was hard and chewy. I couldn’t even cut a piece (it required seven efforts). We asked to address it. We received the same meals, it was fairly warmed up (for my husband) yet, he encountered the same issue with chicken as I did - chewy and hard. My chicken did not have much of improvement… and no one even asked us - how is the food. When I crutches my lip with the broken glass - I mentioned it to the waiter, he said “okay” (like it’s normal), but after a minute or two brought me another glass.
I don’t know why people are queuing in this place, we didn’t find the food of any wow… the chicken was really 6 out of 10 (even 6 is given for a beautiful presentation of the meal and not for the meat quality). Considering that restaurant is not cheap, you would expect a better treatment and care as well as quality...
