I chose La Lenita on the recommendation from the Turistica office on Independence Plaza. I made a 9pm booking (dinner opening time) and researched the menu a little as my Spanish is negligible. Even before entering the restaurant a very effervescent and sprightly waiter welcomed me into the restaurant. He must have been told that a solo foreign man had booked a 9pm table??! He showed me to a table, gave me a menu and we conversed awkwardly but well enough so we understood each other. He brought a free empanada to me and bread with a tomato and onion salsa. I ordered two more empanada (Picante and De Queso) and a rare to med rare Picana (Sirloin steak). I requested salad instead of chips. Plus I ordered a glass Tinto vino. The empanadas were fantastic! The best I’ve eaten in my eight days of travel in Argentina. The pastry texture was just right (not brittle as some can be when sitting around) and the fillings fresh although the picante could have been spicier for my palate. The sirloin arrived soon after and was served with chips rather than salad as I’d requested via Google translate. Never mind, I thought, as they were quite tasty. The steak looked fine with a big edge of fat but when I cut into the meat I discovered it was more med to med well rather than the rare to med rare I’d ordered. In Buenos Aires at a steak house, the waiter gave me a cooking chart to select my desired degree of cooking so perhaps the La Lenita management should do something similar and avoid cooking temperature errors? A shame really but I ate most of the steak. I had to ask for Chimichuri rather than being offered the sauce accompaniment. My server was jovial but professional and I guess the atmosphere of the room changes as more customers arrive in the evening. Coming from Australia, I’m still adjusting to...

A meat lovers' paradise, also offering good pastas, nice side dishes and some basic salads. The meat is of excellent quality and cooked to perfection on an open fire. The Skirt Steak (Entraña) was one of the best, if not the very best, I've had in Argentina. Prices are honest (the most expensive dish is about 6 USD equivalent) and portions generous: if you are not terribly hungry a single dish easily equates to a full meal, if not add an appetizer (like an empanada) or a dessert and you'll be completely satisfied. The lasagna was also a very big portion and very good. Wine selection, while not huge, offers some good Argentinian options and quite a few local wines worth trying. Highly recommended restaurant, unless you are a vegetarian, in which case the menu options are very limited. But this is definitely not a restaurant for vegetarians! There are a nice covered patio and a cozy inside dining room. The latter can become loud and noisy when the place fills up (and it is almost always full,...
