GOUGE
Be warned.
20%
We were shocked to see that by using a credit card they automatically add 20% to your bill.
There are some who would say the prices are good (because no one really wants to admit they were taken for a ride).
The truth is with their not-worth-it prices it's not difficult to rack up a $100 bill in USD.
So you'll be angry at being used when the surprise $20 USD is added to your bill.
Then on top of that is the tip - anywhere from 10% to 15% to %20 depending on tipping customs in your home culture.
That tip adds another $10 or $15 or $20 USD to your bil.
Really?
You wanna pay up to $140 USD for a meal for 3 where you can't talk over the roar of diesel engines from barges, old water taxis, and jet skis?
Go for it.
Honestly we had a better meal just off the commercial street in Tigre.
We enjoyed friendly service and a thick, perfectly grilled steak for two to share (compartir) with salads and potatoes and sparkling water for $9 USD each. (crazy good price)
Club Glorias is the name of the place/restaurant.
It's typical of a type of place/restaurant we've gotten to know in our two months here.
Here there are these places called "clubs" - and they're actually just that - clubs.
There are different types of clubs.
We like a club in Palermo Chico called "Club Social Gral Alvear".
It's a club where all kinds of kids to learn dance - and the restaurant in the club serves up great Milanesa.
(you might consider reading my review of club social gral alvear)
The club we enjoy in Tigre is called "Club Social Glorias de Tigre".
It's about 100 years old and it has an indoor athletic field for all kinds of kids to learn and play futsal/futbol/soccer.
It's a blue collar club where the faces, the hand gestures, and the accents of the locals make us believe we're back in Italy.
(a supermajority of argentines are descended from italian immigrants and they speak spanish words with a kind of italian accent)
Club Glorias is about a 12 minute walk from the Tigre Mitre Station. (Mitre is the train line from Retiro Station.)
And Club Glorias is about a 10 minute walk from Puerto de Frutos.
TIP:
Eat before you walk to Puerto de Frutos cause Puerto de Frutos is big - it's old loading docks and slips.
And it's a total tourist trap.
If you eat in Puerto de Frutos - or the fake "China Town" you'll be gouged like you'll be gouged at Maria Lujan.
A couple more things:
Keep in mind that there are virtually no trees providing relief from the sun and its reflection off the pavement in Puerto Madero.
And on a Monday or Tuesday you'll have Puerto Madero to yourselves - but shops - and almost all toilets - are...
Read moreThe restaurant with neoclassical architetture was beautifuly situated on the River in Tigre. It had 3 atriums ground level to which you had a choice to be seated. Inside, right in an glass covered atrium, or straight directly to the oven air atrium vista river. They staff will give you spray for mosquitoes for that area if asked for. Decorated with modern dark tables with white plates and linen. Dim warm ambient lighting. Service was attentive and professional, the only shortcoming is the lengtlhy wait between being seated and taking our orders. Especially since the floor had full staffing and few clients to attend to. Unfortunately, the food was not up to par with the pricing and decor. I ordered chicken Thai plate, and did not touch it as the first bite reflected old chicken meat on the brink of going bad. So I divided the plate of my husband with was a Milanese and mashed potatoes. Disillusioned. Great ambient, poor food, good service,...
Read moreI arrived at 7:30 and there were only two other tables dining. At the time. I was able to choose my table as a single diner, which was very nice. The menu was accessed through QR code at each table. The service was attentive and helpful. I chose the salmon empanada for starter, followed by the grilled surubi and roasted vegetables. Both of these were delicious. The surubi was something new for me, and it was very much like a flakier version of swordfish, cut thick and seared on the outside while tender and moist on the inside. I was a little disappointed by the creme brulee, so perhaps choose a different dessert. Next time I think I would go with the tried and true flan mixto or the panqueque con...
