Salitre was just excellent. We had 3 nights in Ushuaia and had dinner there twice. The place is close to the center but a little at the margins and quite new, so it is NOT a tourist trap. The service is just superb without being too intense. The place is cute. And the food… the soup of the day was just mindblowing both times we dined there. First it was an eggplant, fennel, and truffle cream, and the second day a fish soup——both extraordinary (and I am Not a soup guy). The steak was perfectly cooked. The bondiola (pork) was lovely. And the hake with black (ink) rice was just stunning. All the sides were as delicious and carefully prepared as the main ingredients, and they were all thoughtfully different for every dish. Prices are also not high at all (especially considering the quality of ingredients), and the wine list is just as good and affordable. For desert we had the marquise both times, because——why change a perfect finish? This is a family restaurant with an excellent and highly creative chef, lovely service, and a very pleasant atmosphere. Our second night we went to another and supposedly fancy, highly ranked restaurant (name undisclosed out of respect)——the following night we came straight back to Salitre: It was incomparably better at half the price, and with much better service and atmosphere. Definitely a MUST go to if you...
Read moreSalitre restaurant delivers an exceptional dining experience that goes beyond expectations. The quality of the food was simply incredible, showcasing the chef’s attention to detail and use of premium ingredients. The service at Salitre was equally impressive. Our server, Brenda, was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and remarkably knowledgeable about the menu. She guided us through our choices with confidence, making excellent recommendations. We also had the pleasure of interacting with Florinda, who brought our dishes to the table with a smile and took the time to explain each one, adding a personal touch to the experience.
The wine selection, particularly the offerings from Mendoza, complemented our dishes perfectly. It’s clear the restaurant has carefully curated its wine list to enhance the flavors of its cuisine.
From start to finish, our visit to Salitre was unforgettable. The combination of outstanding food, impeccable service, and a thoughtful wine pairing made for a truly special evening. If you’re seeking a restaurant where quality and care shine through in every detail, Salitre is a must-visit. Highly...
Read moreSo good I went back twice. But really, this relatively new family-run restaurant is still off the beaten track but should be in everybody's must visit list for Ushuaia.
Saltire has a casual fine dining atmosphere lifted with light jazz and the setting sun in the summer months. The menu has variety, but not enough to lose you in it. Every dish that I ordered came out beautifully plated and was absolutely delicious. Definitely get the soup of the day because the natural flavor of whatever vegetable they are using comes through strong and in bright, vibrant colors. The staff are friendly, generous, and if your spoken Spanish is as weak as mine, more than willing to help you in English (menus are Spanish only). They have Wi-Fi, so if you need some online translation just ask for the password.
Honestly, this might be the best restaurant in the town and I really hope it starts to get more recognition nationally too (but not too much, I don't want to have to wait for months to make...
