Jano used to be my favourite Syrian 🇸🇾 / Lebanese 🇱🇧 restaurant in Yerevan and I used to eat there twice a week and ordered twice or thrice a week by delivery whenever on visit to Armenia so writing this is a little painful.
The salads and meze were always their strongest point but their quality is reduced.
In the past they used to add a little olive oil which was not the best quality but it was at least edible and in any case I always carry a bottle of genuine half a liter of extra virgin Italian olive oil DOP on my travels that I add to hummus, mutabal etc. for an authentic flavour.
Now Jano literally drowns the meze in a large quantity of dubious oil (my educated guess is it is a mix of canola, vegetable and very old non-virgin olive oil) which renders them inedible.
Jano's knafeh used to be delicious.
It was made of excellent local cheese and it came out piping hot and sizzling with aroma out of their oven.
Now their knafeh tastes like it is pre-made and popped into the microwave. It is dry and tasteless.
They added European desserts such as tiramisu which don't belong in a Syrian restaurant plus they are made elsewhere and can be eaten in any of 150+ lame restaurants and even in self service venues around town.
Jano's meat dishes are still tasty but these days you can get these simple grilled dishes on literally every street corner in Yerevan so perhaps it is time to add more innovative dishes such as maqlubeh, shish barak etc. to stand...

Read moreI’m giving it a one to get their attention.
We have been loyal customers of Jano for many years and always loved the food. We always left tips here. We even brought visiting friends and family here. Unfortunately, our recent visit was extremely disappointing.
The restaurant was overcrowded, with a birthday party blasting music so loudly we couldn’t even talk. Service was chaotic — three or four waitresses rushing around but not making eye contact, and it took over 15 minutes just to take our order. When the food finally arrived, it was badly burned. No proper apology, no effort to fix the mistake, just indifference.
It’s very sad to say this after so many good years, but this will be our last visit. They have lost a loyal customer or more like customers. We were part of those that helped you grow throughout many years of you cannot organise your restaurant during a growth period then you will...
