Carmel's Cafe Bar and Grill — Restaurant in Adelaide

We pre-booked a table for 5 people at 7pm, it was my mums last night with us before flying home. We were hoping for a special night out! We will not be returning or recommending unfortunately. After waiting for sometime, we checked on our meals ensuring our order had not been missed or forgotten. Two meals were brought out approx 8:45pm followed by another two meal 5 mins later and the final meal arrived 5-10 mins after that. At this time we were advised they were short staffed in the kitchen and they would comp 2 deserts. Four of the meals were not generous or value for money. My daughter had the carbonara and this was really nice, generous and the best value from the other 4 meals. I couldn't finish my meal (steak) as it was over cooked, tough and very over salted. We declined the 2 deserts as they were cleaning up and sweeping floors around us at this point plus there was 5 of us not 2. There was also no opportunity to provide feedback, we weren't asked how our meal was and when we declined the deserts the staff member turned away and disappeared into the kichen before we had chance to say anything else. It didn't feel right raising the issue at the till to the young waitress so I paid and left. Overall the place was overpriced, noisy, lacked any atmosphere and the staff throughout the night were not attentive, we had to follow up for drinks despite being sat directly opposite the bar. The food is great, the decor and restaurant look really good, and the waitresses were quite friendly. Its a pity it was sooooo slow. We waited 25min before someone took our drink order, we told the waitresses we hadn't ordered our food, she said the next waitresses will do that. In the end, after waiting another 20 minutes, the drinks waitresses took our order?? We received our meal which was excellent. Then we ordered dessert which came in reasonable time, but we didn't have cutlery, the waitress said she was getting it, that was the last we saw of her, meanwhile my ice cream was melting. I then beckoned over another waitress who apologised and bought over our cutlery she said I will see the manager. The male manager came over, I said you food is great but your service is slow, he disagreed and started to argue!! He then explained the ordering process with the 2 waitresses, I said well that's not functioning, he then said "we'll work something out" that was the last we saw of him. For all the rave and the dollars, you'd expect better service. Waited over an hour for food, watched tables seated after us eating before us, and Carmel herself made a big loud embrassing deal out of someone asking for small changes to a dish due to allergies. After 5minutes of asking around in the kitchen our waitress returned with the news they couldnt dice tomatoes for use on a pizza instead of somethind else our guest was allergic to, because they didnt have time. How long does dicing a tomato take? They coulda brought me a knife and I'd have done it. In the end they seemed to have all the time in the world because our food took forever and a lot of it had cooled. Heard ao many good things about it, and I get that some days are just poo, but the staff were my main beef that day. No one wants to humilated because of their allergies, and no one wants the staff giving you attitude. If it wasn't a birthday gathering, I'd have just left way before the food...
