Initially I came here to put in a FIVE star review for the amazing chips that chicken chef does. The best and most delicious chips in all of South Australia. However previous reviews came to my attention that there has been a fair few commentary about the customer service provided at Chicken Chef and specifically in regards to one of the staff members. Firstly I would like to note that I have never had bad customer service at Chicken Chef Gilles Plains whatsoever, and I consider myself a regular customer there. All staff members are lovely, helpful, and hardworking. Secondly, reviews specifically targeting a staff member is the main reason I’m putting this review in. I would just like to say that with my experience as a customer at chicken all staff have been absolutely amazing. The older sister has been nothing but an amazing worker at that place. Every time I visit chicken chef for my dose of their delicious chips she always makes sure to add that little extra in my bag and puts just the right amount of salt. From what I’ve noticed she is always on hand, a hard worker, and has the shop under control especially during peak hours. Coming from a retail and hospitality background I believe that that’s a very important skill to have and not an easy thing to achieve especially when it’s a family business. She might not be as chatty as the other co-workers but the customer service that I have received from her is nothing but the best which reflects in the food she prepares and in the success of the business. Read moreThis has been a tough review to write because I'm very torn on how to present my experiences with this establishment. I've lived in the area for a number of years and seen a number of changes and ups and downs in the business.
First off, the food is fantastic. There's been a slight variation in a few things over the years but generally speaking you can always depend on the quality and quantity that Chicken Chef gives out. The chips in particular are almost always absolutely stellar. If i was to write a review specifically based around the food itself, it would be an easy 5 stars.
This brings me to the other side of a business or resteraunt experience, the service. This is where I struggle to review my experiences accurately. There are a handful of staff whom, without fail, deliver an excellent above and beyond experience every time. Unfortunately, they're not always there, and even when they are, they may not be the point of contact. My experiences with the other staff have ranged from seeing positive or neutral demeanours, to generally grumpy attitudes, to downright insulting and rude behaviour which genuinely detracts from my experience with the store and puts a bad taste in my mouth.
I don't think I'm the only one to have these same feelings regarding the store, as a lot of the other reviews seem to echo my opinions here. This is why I have difficulty assessing Chicken Chef. From my experiences dealing with the staff that I found absolutely joyful to be around, I by no means want to write a review that slams or otherwise disparages the place, because those employees don't deserve that. Read morefirst time visiting this store, i’ve been to blair athol store multiple times and enjoyed my experience yet upon trying the gilles plains store I was appalled. after ordering I immediately started receiving constant death stares and stink eyes from all the staff behind the counter, with one of the senior crew making remarks at me over the counter yet it was loud in store and couldn’t make out what she’d said. after waiting patiently for my food (which was old, overcooked and greasy and is not the standard I receive at blair athol) I was feeling quite threatened from the attitude I was given by staff. upon leaving I apologised to the senior crew and asked if I had upset or offended anyone without knowing. I was then accused of trying to fight one of their staff members when I only spoke to the cashier when ordering. she defended her staff and I told her I didn’t know nor spoke to her. I did not receive an apology for their attitude toward me as a paying customer and certainly won’t be returning. i’ll be sticking to blair athol where I know the food and service is always exceptional and gilles plains needs...
