Being from Victoria it's been a real adjustment trying to find a good fish and chip place in SA and this was one of the highest rated ones so was very keen to try it. Potato cakes were decent, chips were fine, I also had a steak vicious burger it was not quite my cup of tea. Had some okay flavors but kind of a mess to eat and the steak was tough. Calamari rings were undercooked. They were very pale and kind of just flavorless, the texture felt rubbery and raw. My girlfriend had butterfish and she said it was quite nice. The desserts we purchased were the real bad spot. The cake tasted fairly mediocre and the portion size for the price was absolutely ridiculous. Had I known the slices were so small I wouldn't have bothered but I ordered over the phone so I kinda got stuffed. The slices are a sliver of cake for the joke price of 10 dollars. If you put all of those slices together I reckon there would be roughly 10 slices to a full cake maybe even more. If the owners think that one cake is worth 100 dollars, especially one so plain in flavor, they are sadly over valuing their product.
This gets at the biggest issue with Fish out of water. The pricing. A medium chips is worth 13 dollars. Back in Victoria 5 dollars worth of chips would give you the same amount maybe even more lol. I get there may be a potato shortage but the prices at the store have not gone up that much to warrant 13 dollars for a medium size chips.
The customer service was very well done the girl at the front did an amazing job given how busy they were. I did notice they don't seem to accept cash, their tills didn't look like they had a cash option but I could be wrong about that. Keep in mind if you want to pay with cash, again I could definetly be wrong about that I'm sure the owner will clear that up if he replies to this.
All in all, I would not return but my experience was not awful, just not good enough for a...
Read moreBloke told me this place was amazing and had the best curry sauce ever. We decided to take the jump and ordered a bunch of food. They forgot to add the curry sauce, so I forgot to add the other 4 stars.
Edit: I wasn’t going to say anything when I wrote this review after seeing the fragile owner respond to almost every one star review in such a childish attempt to shame people for “running” to Google to leave bad reviews. Your crocodile tears won’t work on me.
Me calling you on the night to explain the trivial basics of business to you is a waste of my time but since you seem so incessant to get feedback, here it is. 1, if a customer buys something from a business, the business should supply what they paid for. I know this is a wild concept but most businesses seem to understand that, so my hope is that you can grasp it. 2, quality control can be established by checking the food in the order against the ticket before releasing the order. Again, many food service businesses seem to manage this process.
Truth be told even if I had called you on the night, you’d have either sent the sauce well after the chips were cold, redone the order in which case my guests would be gone, or refund the order in which case we’d have to have waited another hour to order somewhere else. All rectifications are still inconveniences to me because you can’t handle food service.
Finally, yes, I absolutely intended to use almost any other fish shop in the state, not because of the failed order but because of how you conduct yourself as an owner trying to shame any customer who doesn’t praise you, despite them having legitimate experiences with your subpar service....
Read moreNot a very good experience, the fries were cooked in at least five day old oil you can see by the picks on how filthy the sweet potatoe fries are the barramundi was frozen with the aluminium and thawed out the next day, you could tell not only by the taste but by how wilted the parsley is, the chair attendant when asked if you could dine gave you a speel of two minutes about the law like as if you had come off the boat in Adelaide, he spoke so fast that I thought I was buying something at McDonald's, as if he was trained to be like a robot, the salad had no oil in it the dressing consisted of only vinegar as it cheap, alot of short cuts are taken at the is place, the barramundi tastes off, and to top it off, as soon as I got home as I walked 3.9 kilometres to eat at this place because of its reviews, I had massive damage on the toilet bowl, I would never give anyone $26 for frozen fish again. I eat salmon and fish every week out, and my food has never been this bad in a long time. Not sure what the reviews are about with the others but they definitely don't know...
