My plumber brother cooks better than this restaurant. My partner and I recently dined here for lunch. We have a combined experience of 16 years in the hospitality industry, including cooking in a Michelin star restaurant (which we don’t think is all that important but assume will lend consumer credibility to the following comments). This review critiques 2 entrees, 2 mains, 1 side and 1 desert. We’ll start by mentioning that our meal was going to include the crab pasta but we changed this decision after being warned by the waitress about the “high” chilli content which had already been “softened” due to what sounded like former customer complaints, making us seriously question the chefs palate and subsequent skill across all dishes - low and behold this instinct was right. The sashimi was served un-fresh in a ‘defrosting’ state with water seeping from the flesh and accompanied by an incredibly basic olive oil dressing that lacked any sense of “chef” creativity. Some parts of the dish were salted almost to the point of being inedible, while other parts had no salt at all. Moving on, the octopus was well cooked, but this to was salt heavy and accompanied by an incredibly basic and unimaginative side of baked potato, shaved celery and parsley leaves. Following this we had the whole baked fish of the day that was accompanied by ‘garden herbs’ that had a prickly unpleasant texture which resembled a ‘garden weed’. We enquired on what the said “herb” was, wait staff didn’t know, but followed up with the kitchen who still couldn’t give us a definitive answer. Seriously? How can the kitchen not know what they’re serving, furthermore, have they even tasted this disgusting leaf themselves? We then moved onto one of the most disappointing and ordinary steaks we’ve ever eaten which was served pale and un-caramelised with a significant amount of un-rendered fat that resulted in a chewy and gristly texture. This was accompanied by an insipid gravy/jus/reduction that had zero depth and complexity. We ate this alongside an ordinary butter baked potato, that quite simply had nothing else going on. Following this, we finished with a traditional custard filled desert that fortunately was light and enjoyable. It’s disappointing and hard to believe that the chefs, floor staff and restauranters have approved such uninspiring food dishes. Thankfully, we enjoyed some flavoursome food later that night when we visited my plumber brother who prepared supermarket lamb forequarter chops grilled over coals with a simple Greek salad that was superior to the aforementioned...
Read moreAfter not only being long time customers at Mitolo Wines but also being the spot we got engaged we both knew it was the venue for our engagement party! & WOW! From beginning to end everything was impeccable! Jenna was an absolute pleasure to deal with throughout the whole process ensuring everything we wanted could be accommodated & worked together to make it all seem less & her service was 10/10. The attention to detail throughout our time at Little Wolf Osteria was second to none, first steps in the door making sure everything was set to our taste to walking us through every course ensuring everyone had a drink, enjoying the food, anything they could do for us & that we were comfortable! Cleaning up in between each course, checking in with us that things were running smoothly, recommending when to bring out the cake to cut, as their attention was on point & even down to when we were leaving asking if we were happy with how everything went & thanking us for giving them the opportunity to host us, it was a standard that we were absolutely beyond impressed with! The service of each staff that helped us were so delightful to deal with! The food was on par with the service, everyone could not stop talking about the food! It was so amazing that 7 days later we are all still reminiscing over it. The abundance of bread (being European) was fantastic, the serves were more than enough, the meat the pasta & the desserts were all beyond fabulous. Honestly not one of us left hungry that’s for sure! We could not fault one thing, our time at Mitolo was an absolute pleasure! Looking forward to our next time there. Thank you to all at Mitolo for making our experience a...
Read moreI really didn't want to write this review but felt it was necessary so that other visitors coming for a meal and experience do not face what we did. Come for a wine tasting...then leave. We visited on a Friday in early Feb for lunch. There were only two tables being used in the large dining room that has about 20 or so tables. So it wasn't busy at all. We had the set menu and wine pairing option - yet there was literally no menu on your table throughout the meal and no info at all about what wine was being paired with what. We had to ask every time food came out what it was and in the end got a scrap of paper from the kitchen with what the food being served was. That's not hospitality. The starters were great but the main courses of pasta and steak were cold and obviously not thought through. At one point we had two rather large pours of red wine placed on our table being served with a light summer style pasta that you think would be accompanied by a white wine. No thought was put in at all to the wine pairing. Who serves two wines at the same time like that too. It was so odd. While the service was attentive and the dining room really lovely looking, I would never come here again for the food. The wine was excellent at Mitolo, and we bought some to be delivered to Sydney. It is a huge shame to not have a great food experience and I hope that the restaurant can address these issues asap. If you have a set menu, print the menus or have on an ipad or something so that the guests can understand what is coming up, get them excited, educate them about the local produce. A big one...
