review no. 53 & 54 of 2024 (Thursday 23/5/24) The ESPY Bakehouse Chicken Satay Pie $6.90 Went on down to The ESPY Bakehouse this morning. On recommendation from the baker, Mark I tried a couple of pies, first up the Chicken Satay pie. This was the second chicken satay pie i've had and it was a lot better than the first ! The presentation of the pie looked really good. Had a nice light looking golden top. Even when cut in half. Nicely sized. The pasty had a nice tidy flakiness to it, you could certainly feel it on the palette. The underside of the pie may have needed a touch more, but the flavour made up for it. The chicken satay flavour was outstanding. You could definitely taste the peanut flavour throughout the pie, nice bite sized tender pieces of chicken that tasted pretty fresh. You could definitely tell there was a bit of kick in the satay sauce, not too overpowering, just about right amount of spice in the sauce, but not that much you drown out the peanut flavour. It tasted restaurant quality. I was pretty impressed. Chicken is such a versatile meat and absorbs the flavour also. The serving temp was spot on. No one hand test, I dined in so I have a cross section of the pie. I was pretty impressed with the pie. Pulled Pork & Jalapeno pie $6.90 The presentation of the pie looked really good. Quietly impressed. Nice looking pie. The pastry on this one was pretty good on top, had that slightly flakey texture when biting into it and the base, the sides had a slight crunchy texture to it but it matched well with the filling My oh my it was packed full of pulled pork, slow cooked for 14 hours. They've done an exceptional job with the pork. Cooked perfectly, I couldn't fault it. Nice soft shredded pieces of pork. I could taste a hint of tomato in spots, combine that and the flavoursome pork with jalapeno and it was a really nice tasting pie. Just the right amount of jalapeno, you could still taste the heat a few seconds after having a mouthful, but not that where it lingers for longer. The serving temp was spot on. The pulled pork was my fave of the 2 of you had to choose ! Plenty of indoor dining space and some outdoor tables and seating, take in the views of the beach. The bakery is pretty much located on the Esplanade at Christies Beach (SA) at the end of Beach Rd. So if you're down that way tell em Marty sent ya 😉 Thanks to Mark and David for having me down there this morning. PS the coffee is good and Mum loved the passionfruit cake 👍 Unit 4/50 Esplanade, Christies Beach SA 5165 #ChristiesBeach #MeatPie #MeatPieAppreciationGroup For more Meat Pie reviews, join my group on Facebook the Meat Pie Appreciation Group

Located at the end of beach road, with plenty of space inside to sit down and eat and take in the sea views, or walk across the road and eat in the park with a playground for the kids. EFTPOS available, and toilets for customers. Had a steak bacon and cheese pie, pie was a large size and looked impressive, with decent sized chunks of steak, but lacked flavour. Could only taste the gravy. Also tried a Cornish pasty, large vegetables inside, which also lacked flavour, and looked like frozen vegetables, even had the waterlogged feeling. Wife had a vanilla slice, but the custard left an aftertaste.

Cheat days = ESBY bakehouse..!! I am glad I could taste the custard bun, cocunut pie and cream bun in sharing with my mates. A week worth of sugar in morning breakfast, and I am not even complaining about it!!! It was well worth it. We stopped here for coffee before we started for Melbourne but ended with lots of other things as everything was so fresh and inviting. Coffee and Chai Latte were amazing too. Excellent place with lots of seating, public toilets, proximity to the beach and above all friendly staff. They even gave us a pack of Hot Cross Buns free for Easter... Yay !!!

Used to come here all the time however won’t be anymore..went here at approx 3:30 on a Wednesday afternoon and wow has it gone down hill, the food was terrible, the chips were soggy with cold stale chips mixed through with hot soggy chips, I ordered a pie which came out cold in the centre so they re heated it - when it came back the meat had gone hard and crunchy on one side as it just been chucked back in the oven on its side even my sons toasted focaccia was soggy and stale. Not a nice experience.
