The Fabulous Baker Boys Bakery
Tradie Pie $6
The presentation of the pie looked pretty good. A larger than usual circular pie. The pastry had a real nice flakiness to it, wasn't dry and had a nice crisp on golden look on top. The lid was perfectly cooked. The base was pretty well cooked and the sides were ok.
Biting into the pie you could taste the deliciousness of the steak, bacon and cheese flavours. The steak was nice and tender, no grisly bits. Bits of diced bacon and melted cheese throughout the pie and was packed full of meat and bacon, the flavours worked really well. A tradies dream ! The sauce/gravy ratio was spot on. I was pretty impressed with the flavour of the gravy. The serving temp was spot on. No one hand test as I dined in for the whole experience. I reckon it would have passed the pub test. Excellent value for Money ! S.A. has the cheapest pies in Australia
Plain Mince Pie $5.90
Next..... Decided to get the stock standard mince pie. As I've said in the past a good sign to judge a bakery is with their stock standard pie.
I was impressed with the look of the pie. The presentation was good and had that golden glow to the oven shaped pie. Ok let's have a look at the pastry, the base needed ed a bit more and one of the sides was a tad under other than that pretty good ๐
Biting into the pie the mince and gravy tasted pretty good. No grisly bits in the mince. Wasn't too salty. None of that onion flavour some plain mince pies have, which I'm not a fan of, some others may like it. Different strokes for different folks. Packed full of meat again. The gravy had a lighter look to some other pies that i've tried. The mince to gravy was spot on and the serving temp was good. Not bad for a stock standard mince pie. (Back of my mind I would have loved to put sauce on it) 10/10 bang for ya buck.
Plenty of seating and tables to sit in the bakery and dine in. The bakery has been around for apx 25 years. Lots of delicious pastries and cakes on offer too and they make their own sangas. Thanks Danielle for having me in ๐

ย ย ย Read moreThe Matchsticks are much too big in size... the pastry used in the matchsticks is wrong in taste and texture - it's very dense when it should be light, fluffy and puff pastry. The whipped cream used tasted almost fake as it was so sweet. The sweetness of a matchstick should come from the jam used within the inside rather then the cream. There was also an enormous amount of cream used, much more then what was necessary. I had to put it on a plate, cut it and scoop out a lot of cream in order to eat it. Trying to bite directly into the snack was impossible as it was much too large in size. Overall, worst matchstick I've ever had in my entire life and that's my fave bakery desert in existence. Such a shame, I would have become a regular customer if it wasn't such an awful outcome and it was made really nice with fresh cream...
The waiting times are also fairly long and it's rather loud generally in store. Sitting outside is much nicer although the people inside the store glare at you or look at you and make you feel unwelcome generally. I don't support them anymore, their products have fallen a lot since the expansion happened.
They also do not do anything with Almond flour/almond meal nor do they want to whatsoever. Such a shame, anyone with glucose intolerance or diabetes would be able to eat foods made with...
ย ย ย Read moreim a bakery tragic..ill literally drive to victor harbour or the Adelaide hills or 2 hrs into the country if there is a rumour that there is a custard slice, custard berliner, kitchener bun, pasty, pie sausage roll to die for..and TFBB at Pooraka are right up there. ill organise to go there on my way to an appointment or event. service is great, and the entire place has exploded into a much larger store than when i first went there in 2018.. it now offers full breakfast and sandwiches and coffee and much more. they also provide inside and outside dining. (its) one of Adelaide's genuinely excellent bakeries and it probably suffers from being tucked away where its not easily seen. do yourself a favour and look them up and indulge yourself. prices arent like a wounded bull either...oh, and ask them if you can put your own sauce in..see what they say...(theres nothing worse than having too much or too little sauce when someone else has done it- and they get that). and dont take any notice of some of the reviews saying that their pies are the same as service stations..thats just complete BS. those SS pies/pasties are expensive and just horrible. not even close to what TFBB do. full disclosure- i have nothing to do with TFBB..just want to recognise a genuinely...
