The food was really nice, and all 9 of us enjoyed our meals. The prices were reasonable. However, that was the only good thing about the dining experience.

We booked a table a week in advance and confirmed the day before, but we still didn't get our table. We waited 20 minutes for a table to be set, and we ended up being placed outside in front of the main entrance. We had to sit there and watch every customer walk around us as they came and went from the hotel.

We were not given any menus, so we had to go get them ourselves. When we got the menus, we realized that we couldn't read them because it was too dark. We all had to get up and step outside into the parking lot or use flashlights to read them.

We tried several times to get a drink, but after waiting 10 minutes at the bar, we gave up. I asked other customers if we were supposed to wait at the table for a drink, and they said they had also given up waiting.

After we spent 2 hours sitting outside in the dark, in what was clearly a walkway. The temperature was 14 degrees, and there was no heating. We were more than happy to leave and never come back.

Overall, the food was nice and so were the staff, except for one lady who seemed to be unhappy working there.

This was our second time dining here and the first time, while not amazing was ok, unfortunately we will probably...

I live near by and had heard from others that things have really improved, so a friend and I went in last night to have dinner and give it a try. Firstly the dining room (refurb) is lovely and we were in a booth, which was very comfortable. The staff were delightful especially the very small young girl with the dark hair - what a sweety she is with and nothing was too much trouble. I ordered the sustainable Fish and Chips and it was one of the worst plates of F&C I have ever had. Overcooked dark batter/dry fish and the chips were luke warm, greasy and also overcooked. The 'token' side salad had a couple of pieces of flowery tomato, a couple of slices of cucumber, with dry lettuce and that was it...for $26 (?) It honestly should be taken off the menu - because in my opinion, people won't come back for it. My friend had the roast of the day which was pork and better than my dish but certainly not a stand out. I had heard that this is now a Matthews Pub, so had higher expectations, given what the other Mathews pubs pump out - this is obviously the odd one out!! - sorry Marryatville - I...

5 star event & function experience

On Saturday night I had the best party of my life upstairs at the new function rooms at The Marryatville.

From the first meeting with Chantal and Liberty the experience was first class, they listened to my wishes and executed everything I could have hoped for and more. I have been inundated with text messages and phone calls from friends, including one who runs events at a high profile Adelaide Hills venue stating the cocktail food was outstanding, like really outstanding, drinks amazing including bespoke made cocktails and the service second to none.

Despite the teaming rain outside, my mum and her mates loved the weatherproof balcony area with its warm and toasty heating, gave us a whole new space to spread out into.

I will certainly be back for other events and I know other mates are now so pleased there is a function venue of this calibre in the eastern suburbs.

I will definitely be...

We booked the Hotel for our sons 1st birthday and hired the upstairs room and balcony. The event was excellent and the staff were fantastic. However we discovered the next day that the chicken platters that had been served were raw in the middle. This caused myself and 2 other people to be sick. After contacting the hotel and advising them of the situation we were told that someone would get back to us. Once contact was made by a manager and the situation was explained. I was told that he would get back to me the following day. This was not followed up and after text messages and phone calls from my end I finally had a call back. The end result was a defensive stance stating it was probably only 6 pieces of chicken that were under cooked? I was then presented with a pitiful offer to resolve the situation I was also denied the contact details of the venues owners and told that this was the end of the matter.

Held a meeting in an upstairs function room. Room was presented beautifully with state-of-the-art smart boards, internet access, flowers, stationery and a warm fire burning in the corner. We were provided with a buzzer to alert staff when we needed assistance or drinks, rather than being interrupted. Could not fault the MVH and will be using them again. Thanks Zac and team

Farthers day lunch - pre crumbed chicken schnitzel look like it was straight from woolworths deli section $24 and squid that gave you 4 full size pieces of squid and 2 tiny cut offs $24 ... no desserts offered on farthers day menu not even garlic bread on menu. Not worth the money really disappointing !
