West Beach SLSC — Restaurant in Adelaide

Way over rated, way over priced, menu very limited when it came to mains. Drinks too expensive. If I want to eat pizza and fish & chips, hamburgers and nibles, It is better to go to a pizza outlet, and supermarket for nibles, fish & chip takeaway for fish & chips, hamburgers. These type of foods are just takeaway style that we don't need to be paying out over $10.00 for, and more, $30.00 for burger and fries, is really a rip off. I had a chicken snitzzle with fries (I wanted chips, not fries) With a small salad, $26.00, the pepper sauce was an extra $6.00. My partner asked for Arracini balls, 4 came on a plate! $28.00 and they were small, and we felt as though they were rationing our serve's. I notice a lot of venues serving meals, are letting the public down, far too many staff, standing around, talking amongst themselves. This was our first time to this venue, since it was built, it certainly doesn't live up to expectation, not sure if we will go back, can't see their attitude to customer service will be changing. Like so many places, the young staff only care about serving young people, not us older generation, is it because our money isn't good enough, or they think we are all dead in the head, none thinking!? What is it ? $15.00 dollars for a very average tasteless glass of red! It tasted like a below grade wine, not what I was expecting for that price. The other thing lacking in these venue's, where food is served, that the staff, when asked about a particular wine, as to it's taste, age, calibre, where the wine was bottled, where the particular grapes is grown, the region, none of these people serving us have any knowledge of the wine they are serving ? This is very odd, because people working in the hospitality business, should, and are suppose to know about the drinks they are serving a customer ! Shouldn't they? During my life time, it is the person serving drinks to have full knowledge of what they're serving the customer, who by the way is paying a lot of money to dine at a resterant, or club, or pub, the staff need to be on top of their game, it goes hand in hand with the total dining experience, not just for the customer, who is paying their money out, but it should also be the enjoyment for the people working in these venue's, to enjoy the interactive dealing with the customer, them sharing their experience with the customer, who is only going to know what they're eating and drinking, from the very person serving them. It is all part of the job, to know everything about what it is, they are serving the customer. Or is all that out the window? and you don't care about the customer's experience at your venue ( resterant ) ? It use to be part of the whole experience of going out for a meal. ( dinner, lunch, ) It is the same in the hotel's, no one knows anything about what they're serving people. It is all too casual by the people operating these venues. Once apon a time, when a person trained to work in the hospitality industry, the most important part of the job, was to learn all about food, it's preparation, how to set the table, knives and forks, and spoon arrangement's at the table, greet people as they entered, show them to their seat, if they booked, or not, same curtious is shown. Ask them what they might want to drink, are generally the first requirements of service. Make sure the table and chairs are clean, ready for customers before they arrive. Ask if they might want a bread roll, as part of the service, butter, etc all ready to go. Usually warm bread rolls. Drinks, water and glasses for the table, spirits, wine, beer, is where the waiter or waitress need to have their knowledge together, to give the customer the full service, and dining experience. Everything I tried was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The coffee also deserves a shoutout – rich, aromatic, and the perfect fuel for a beach day.

Buzzy vibe: The atmosphere at West Beach SLSC is electric, especially on weekends. It's the perfect spot to catch up with friends, enjoy a family outing, or simply soak up the lively beachside energy.

The Not-So-Good:

The wait: Be prepared for a wait, especially if you're visiting during peak hours. Ordering food and drinks can take up to 30 minutes, and finding a table can be even trickier. My tip? Grab a takeaway coffee and enjoy the beach views while you wait for your table. Limited seating: The outdoor seating area is spacious, but it fills up quickly. If you're with a large group, arriving early or making a reservation is highly recommended.

Overall:

West Beach SLSC is a fantastic beachfront venue with stunning views, delicious food, and a vibrant atmosphere. Just be prepared for the potential wait times. If you're looking for a relaxed, leisurely brunch, this might not be the ideal spot. But if you're happy to embrace the buzz and don't mind waiting a bit, West Beach SLSC is definitely worth the visit.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Review updated May 2025.

This once charming community icon has devolved into a gratuitous cash grab. The view is stunning, no denying that. But everything else is beyond repair. Only a new regime can rectify the problems.

What are the problems?

*The service is disgusting. You aren't greeted. When you manage to catch the attention of staff, you are spoken to as if you are a nuisance. Staff working the bar are just rude. Forget manners, smiling, eye contact, or even forming full sentences - brace yourself for eye rolls, grunts, attitude, and being forced to wait while they finish their private conversations.

*Pricing is out of control. Drinks prices are obscene. Food is far too expensive for what it is (I'll get to this later). They know they have a captive audience in West Beach so squeeze patrons for as much as they can.

*The food is horrendous. How on earth can you get a chicken schnitzel so wrong? Small portions, over cooked, poor quality sides, and dishes brought out to your table whenever they want. We waited 40 minutes for the last main to be brought out, only for it to be cold. As mentioned above, the pricing is at a level you would be forgiven for expecting the best. This isn't just disappointing, it's bordering on disgusting.

*The venue is simply not cleaned. From walking on food-encrusted carpet, to having to avoid the toilets due to the vile conditions, health inspection would be kept very busy. Dirty glassware, tables left uncleared for extended periods, a buildup of dirty glasses at the bar, sticky tables... This place looks for ways to make you uncomfortable.

*They simply don't care. Try giving feedback, I dare you. The response I got: "Try Henley surf club if you don't like it". I've reached out to the surf club to discuss, but no one responds.

As long as you keep going and spending your hard earned cash here, nothing will change. If you want a coastal view, go north or south for a better experience. Want a nice meal? Find a small family business or a community focused pub and spend your money where they care about your experience. If you are after a drink, go literally anywhere else. This place exemplifies greed. But they don't care, they got their grants for the flash...
