Tompkins — Restaurant in Alfred Cove

Our family were regulars here - every Friday night for over a year. Inviting friends here for special occasions and get togethers. The food is incredible- Maria the head chef is a delight and the food is so delicious, every time. The service is always great, with the staff so friendly and it was an excellent family friendly venue with my young daughter always making a new friend to play with.

Unfortunately over the last few weeks we have noticed a significant change in the management of the venue which we believe is driving families away. Several signs posted all over the venue about children remaining seated at the table at all times, and the venue manager sitting at a table next to the bar with a wine and dinner, while yelling at any children in the venue (even those who are not causing any issues what so ever), appearing to intimidate staff members - telling them off by shouting across the venue to the bar regarding ‘something’ they were doing incorrectly. It appears the manager views the venue as a fine dining restaurant, rather than the awesome family friendly sporting club it is.

I completely understand health and safety regulations, and this is not the issue here - it is the rude and tyrannical behaviour of the current manager that is VERY off putting.

We just held our wedding reception at Tompkins on Swan, in the River Room. All of the kitchen staff and especially the venue manager, Amanda, were amazing. A lot of our guests have told us how attentive and professional they were, always making sure that they were enjoying their dining experience. I must also say that we really enjoyed our food, it was delicious and we received a lot of compliments from our guests about how they enjoyed their dinner. We strongly recommend considering Tompkins on Swan for your wedding reception or any event, as all of the staff put in their absolute best effort to make our day perfect. We have been coming to Tomkins for 5 years and have loved the food, the atmosphere, meeting up with friends and the freedom for the kids to play and enjoy an afternoon or evening out locally. However the change of management has negatively impacted our recent experiences there. The previously kid friendly atmosphere has been lost and my child is scared to go into the venue due to the new English manager, enjoying his wine throughout the evening waiting to pounce on an unsuspecting child just having a fun evening with their family.
