Hiro Japanese — Restaurant in Balcatta

Disappointed. I really wanted to like this place. Just ate here with my wife and two kids. Ordered wagyu tataki, pork gyoza, tonkatsu ramen, soft shell crab sushi roll and plain tuna sushi roll. Wagyu portion wasn't very large but it was very nice in taste and presentation Gyoza was ok. The pork inside was moist but didn't have much in the way of herbs. I usually expect some fresh chives. Soft shell roll was ok. My ramen was disappointing. The tonkotsu broth was very thin and tasted like it was made from a packet. Didn't have the mouth feel that comes from the long slow cooking process using good bones and trotters for proper collagen development. Also had a slight smell of fish as if the chefs hands had been touching fish before preparing the ramen and the small transferred. Also they forgot the kids tuna roll and I had to ask twice for it. Child was starving and we had finished eating when his finally came out. Upon paying I was asking if everything was ok and I explained my dissatisfaction to the staff about the ramen and also asked them to tell me if they had in fact forgotten about the tuna roll which they had but no apology was given and no offer to rectify anything was given. All staff were friendly and smiling. Venue is BYO and there is a bottle store next to the restaurant to purchase alcohol if you wish. Make sure you book in advance as there is limited room in restaurant. It's a shame as I love Japanese food and culture and this could have been my new place to get my nostalgic Japanese...

Generally sushi here is good but it was a bit smelly today. King fish and tuna sashimi were not eatable fresh... so decided to cook it to eat. Please do not serve sashimi if they are not fresh as they can make people sick... but I still love u.

• I am editing my review based on your reply. I am not trying to damage your business but hoping to see some improvement. Personally, I have been eating sashimi for the past 30 years. I know what is fresh and what is not. Trust me it was not aroma from the fat and tuna was very moosh. I would have fixed my review to more positive if you have admitted and promise for the improvement. Well... you lost one local...

Food is good although a bit higher in price when compared to other places.

You also should never order their food through Uber Eats as the prices are marked up an average 40-50% which is the highest I've seen for any restaurant on Uber Eats. This is for everything, including their drinks and condiments (I compared the prices on their website to what they had on Uber Eats). This also doesn't include the delivery or service fee, and so it is quite a big rip-off ordering delivery for their food.

Otherwise, it's one of the better Japanese places in the area just wish their prices were a bit cheaper. (I rate it 3.5 stars just rounded up as there is no...
