This was a weird experience. We walked in and did not get greeted to a very large and kind of awkwardly spaced area. It needed more in the space, whether more robust tables and chairs or more decor, not sure just not great.
Weren't sure if we could just sit where we pleased so I walked up to the bar to ask. One girl server looked directly at me and then proceeded to walk to the "back" to chat with another guy in there. Thankfully there was one guy who saw me and actually asked if I needed help. I asked where we could sit (anywhere) and if there was a menu or something we could look at (I'd read they served food). They unfortunately didn't serve food but there were hotdogs from a van outside. And no menu.
My partner and i ordered some hotdogs and I went to order some beer. Never having been to this place before I was hoping to get a run down on their beers, what's popular, maybe asked what I liked and how I could try them. None of that. I asked "can I get a tasting board?" Which was met with "yeah.". I then tried to skim through the beers written on the wall.
I asked which the server liked and he just kind of read them off the wall saying they're all alright. I eventually mentioned "well we usually drink "X" and I asked about one beer called a pina colada or something and he blatantly said it's not that good and I should try a different one. Just super weird.
I eventually chose a few and paid, and then he specifically said "don't drag the tasting board make sure you pick it straight up". This would have been fine if he had moved the board closer to my side of the counter. Instead I had to reach over the counter onto his side on my tippy toes to awkwardly lift the whole thing and carry it back to my table. Just generally a super weird experience and not what I'd expect from a brewery bar.
The beer itself was great, definitely some better than others but great to see a local brewery around this relatively quiet area. The hot dogs were "meh"...
Read moreHad a great day out at this local Gem. Not sure if they do this every weekend, but they had food stalls & fresh seafood trucks lined up inside & outside the brewery. Live music in the beer garden. Did a tour of the brewery, very interesting seeing how the different beers are brewed. Best beer is the lager. They also brew 2 different IPA's, I can't remember which was which, but one of them was the best craft IPA I've had. Haven't been a fan of IPA's before, but this one is an absolute winner. The 2nd IPA was quite strong. Not bad for one or two but not sure if I could drink it all the time. Quite a few other types on tap, will have to try next time. Not like going to the pub, lot's of families & kids. They serve beer outside too, which is much quicker than lining up inside where it was pretty packed. Overall 5 Stars. This beer...
Read moreAn excellent location, Ballistic was a long time coming for me, a lover of good brews. When Brews Brothers changed owners (it has really gone downhill) I stopped brewing my beer there. Was at the mercy of "craft beers" that are often eaten up by the major labels of late, with some really outstanding amongst them, none local. Ballistic finally sorted thru all the red tape with licensing etc and is already well established. Tasty beers and an excellent, impressive setup. Not having children was the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, on my visit there (a Sunday arvo), it is more family oriented, excellent for those who want to get out to a local brewery that is child and...
