⭐ Overall Rating: 4/5 🍽 Food: 5/5 | 🏆 Service: 5/5 | ✨ Atmosphere: 5/5 | ⏳ Wait Time: Needs Improvement Karwan is a hidden gem for Afghan cuisine, offering a rich and authentic dining experience. From the very first bite, the flavors transport you straight to the heart of Afghanistan—each dish bursting with perfectly balanced spices, tender meats, and aromatic rice that melts in your mouth. The service is exceptional—warm, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The staff genuinely cares about your experience and ensures everything is to your liking. The atmosphere? Absolutely inviting! The cozy yet elegant décor, combined with traditional Afghan music in the background, creates an immersive dining experience. However, the only drawback was the wait time. The food took significantly longer to arrive than expected, which tested our patience. While the quality definitely made up for it, a more efficient kitchen flow would elevate the experience to perfection. 💡 Final Verdict: If you have the time to spare, this place is absolutely worth it! Just be prepared for a leisurely meal. Will I return? Absolutely—those flavors are unforgettable!

The first time we ate here we arrived at 18:50 our time was kind of spoiled by a table of 9 loud individuals who didn't care of anyone else's time in the quaint restaurant to the point we were forced to speak loud ourselves in the relatively small space. Service was a singular individual run off their feet and for a Wednesday Night felt like it'd be nuts on a weekend. it took an hour to receive our mains. The complimentary chicken soup subsided any hunger for about half the wait time. And when they brought out the Naan bread with the mains I think I didn't take it quick enough so it was just dropped on my plate, basket and all! and off they ran. Food wise cannot sing any better praise than superbly cooked and perfectly presented though again we were practically forgotten and by the time we'd finished dinner. we were done waiting so skipped dessert just to get out of there. If we go back I'll be asking if there's going to be any large tables booked. Don't want to go through that again. The food definitely deserves a visit and the prices are really affordable so guess we'll give it another go later down the track.

We had a wonderful time here and really enjoyed the incredible food. The staff was a lovely young man who was very polite and respectful, especially to my mother in law. Our food came out quickly, we could smell it cooking, and there were amazing smells coming from the kitchen! The complimentary corn soup was a delightful surprise. Every dish was delicious; fresh and high quality. We had to take some away, we ordered too much and we stuffed ourselves full! Highly recommend this little family restaurant. They have gone to a lot of effort with the way they set the tables and made the interior welcoming, with Afghani photographs and other little touches. Also enjoyed the traditional music, added to the atmosphere. We really enjoyed the whole experience and will definitely become regulars. We are so happy there is somewhere so great to dine on the Northside. A huge thank you to the restaurant for all of your effort and hospitality.

I’ve heard a lot about Karwan restaurant and tried it out, and wasn’t more happy. The menu at Karwan offered a delightful selection of Afghan dishes, each bursting with authentic flavors. We started with Mantu, delicate steamed dumplings filled with seasoned ground beef and topped with a tangy yogurt sauce and a sprinkle of dried mint. The combination of textures and flavors was exquisite, setting a high standard for the rest of the meal.

For the main course, we enjoyed their signature Kabuli Pulao, a fragrant rice dish adorned with tender chunks of lamb, sweetened carrots, and raisins. The lamb was cooked to perfection, incredibly tender and infused with aromatic spices that left a lasting impression. We also tried Chapli Kebabs, spiced ground meat patties grilled to juicy perfection, served with a side of fresh salad and naan bread.

Throughout the meal, the service at Karwan was exceptional. The staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, making recommendations that perfectly suited our tastes. The presentation of each dish was elegant and thoughtful, reflecting the care and passion of the kitchen.

In conclusion, Karwan Restaurant stands out not only for its delicious Afghan cuisine but also for its welcoming ambiance and impeccable service. It's a hidden gem that I would highly recommend to anyone looking to experience authentic Afghan flavors in a cozy and inviting setting. I look forward to returning to Karwan to explore more of their menu and indulge in their culinary...

Extremely disappointed. I came here after reading good reviews, but my experience was the opposite. The food was tasteless and of poor quality. The staff were rude and unprofessional — one even told me not to come to their restaurant again! I’ve never experienced such behavior in any dining place. Definitely not worth visiting.

There is no option for the reply Here I’m responding for your reply

I appreciate your response, but your version of events is not accurate. Yes, we arrived late due to unavoidable circumstances, but we were still seated — and that was never the issue. The main problem was the poor food quality and the unprofessional behavior of staff, which I stand by.

Regarding the Kabuli Pallow, finishing a plate does not mean it tasted good — we had ordered multiple dishes and shared, and wasting food is not my habit. Calling my feedback ‘misleading’ is unfair.

On the matter of lamb shanks, we simply asked if it was possible to order them à la carte, as many restaurants are flexible with such requests. It was not an ‘insistence’ but a question.

As for staff conduct, being told by your own staff to ‘not come back again’ is not what any professional restaurant should consider respectful service.

This review reflects my genuine experience, which unfortunately was far from the positive image you claim. I hope this feedback is taken as an opportunity to improve, rather than dismissing...

I have been to Karwan Afghan Restaurant 3 times so far. The first two times, I went on my own and the 3rd time I took a group of 8 business colleagues (comically referred to in the review of G Frost below).

It was initially somewhat perplexing that the restaurant was located in Boondall given that a large part of the Afghan community live on the south side of Brisbane.

The food has consistently been excellent, well presented, tasty, and without fault. The service has always been extremely friendly, caring, and commensurate for a quaint restaurant. I cannot recommend this highly enough.

I will be taking a group of Afghan friends that have never been to it soon and can confidently say this is one of the best Afghan restaurants in Brisbane.

Regardless if it was me on my own, or with a large group of people, the experience has been excellent. I will make it a fortnightly visit from now on.

To highlight the review of G Frost, it may have gone unnoticed to him/her that in fact the loud group of 9 people were helping the single person serving (who was the owner of the restaurant if he/she cared to ask) in moving plates around and tidying up out of respect. It is bookings like that which supports small business on a week night and we will continue to support this...
