The food was delicious- tasty and decent sized serves, the the customer service made us feel awkward at best.
We had a booking as we were having a meal before a concert at Boondal, when we arrived we were seated at our table and the next server asked if we were sure we were “the X party”. Um, yes?
We waited for someone to come and take our order, but were caught off guard when we were ushered to the counter and told we must pay first. We were one of 3 tables, and the other 2 tables had placed their orders without being pushed up to the counter. I asked why we had to pay first when the other tables didn’t and was told “we might get busy”. It was pretty uncomfortable and felt like we were being singled out as people who might skip out on the bill. Another table watched on in confusion and commented to us that they also thought it was odd.
Next there was a staff member taking photos of those dining. I wasn’t asked if I minded having my photo taken. I assume it’s for social media, and I was never asked if I was ok with them sharing the photos they took. Sometimes people don’t want their photo plastered everywhere
Decent food and would potentially order takeaway from here if I was in the area, but they have a lot to learn about...
Read moreI thought I was coming to E'mae Cafe for dinner but didn’t realised this is now a new Thai restaurant with different owners.
Ordered a tom yum soup, thai fried rice and crispy pork with Asian greens. The tom yum soup isn’t the usual version that I’m familiar with, which is spicy, salty and sour. Instead, this tastes very sweet because of the coconut milk, not spicy and sour at all, almost like a curry. The fried rice taste alright, but doesn’t sing thai to me, like a Chinese fried rice. The pork with Asian greens is ok.
Talked to the friendly chefs/owners about the soup. They said there are 2 versions of tom yum in Thailand, a clear version and one with coconut milk. I said most Australian is familiar with the clear version and expect that when one order a tom yum soup. They understood and said will offer 2 versions on the menu in the future and promise me to make the best clear tom yum soup when I visit again.
This is only day 6 into their new business, I was told, good luck to these...
Read morePretty reliable thai restaurant when every shop in my loca Northside l area is shut due to Anzac Day presentation. The gentleman at the counter was very polite and helpful because of my first visit to this restaurant. He suggested a few dishes to order that are quite popular . I ordered pad thai, basil chicken, pork pad prik , satay chicken. The restaurant closes after 2 pm and reopens for dinner. I ordered takeaway. Due to public holidays there is a surcharge 15% on top of your bill which is fair. I was about to leave my son and also requested to order curry puffs and money 💰 bags. Despite the restaurant closing after 2 p.m., the guy was nice enough to take an additional order. Definitely will return to this...
