A long awaited dinner at the newly renovated Summit Restaurant at Mount Coot-tha. As always the view is the absolute show stopper highlight. Stunning!
The restaurant itself has been impeccably renovated. A lovely bar and lounge area when entering looks very classy and inviting. The outside deck area is gorgeous with magnificent sprawling views across Brisbane city and suburbs.
The inside dining area has a feeling of warmth and elegance. Our table had a beautiful view, as did most other tables in the restaurant.
We chose the premium tasting menu for $120 per head. We were unfortunately quite disappointed. Everything about the look and feel (and price) of the restaurant said high standards and top quality. Yet the food standard didn’t match that at all.
The dishes had either mismatched flavours that completely opposed each other, or very basic ingredients presented in a way that made it look like it was higher quality than it was.
For example, a delicate creamy pate atop a breaded crouton, with a red very strong flavoured salt n vinegar powder dusted all over it that just didn’t match, and was almost inedible.
Many of the dishes used a lot of plain sour cream, or cream cheese, which felt like dining at a bistro, beautifully presented on the plate but there was nothing in the flavours… and very mismatched.
For example, there was a potato hash rectangle that was presented with a large dollop of plain sour cream on the side with fish roe on top. No added herbs or flavours to the sour cream. The flavours just weren’t there, and the dishes lacked taste and culinary artistry.
The waitstaff were lovely but our dishes were rushed very quickly despite the restaurant having plenty of available tables. We had to ask a couple of times to slow everything down. At one point we had 4 courses sitting in front of us.
None the less we had a beautiful night due to the company and the lovely atmosphere. The food wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t great, and it wasn’t of the expected standard to match the price.
Would I go back again. I don’t think so. Maybe for a beer or wine on the deck during the day… but that’s probably the extent of it. Hopefully they will work out the kinks and if we do decide to go back in 6 months time it may be a...
Read moreIt is a lovely loaction and outlook. We decided to try it out once we learned it had reopend for business. This was probably a week or two in of them operating. It was 2 of us that went during a week night and it was not busy. The food was fine. Not very remembrable. Service needed work. A place that exudes fine dining and charges the price for it, should have the service that accommodates the experince being paid for. The table setting had multiple cutlery for each course, and a plate to begin, but each course our plates and cutlery were not cleared and replaced. So we ate off dirty plates with the previous courses residue and sauces then mixed in with the new course, and dirty cutlery awkwardly left on the table. The dishes were not brought out with serving utensils and had to be asked for.
Its not the worst, but it is the small details you would expect when dining in a place like this that were missing and make the overall experience poor for the customer.
For an entre we shared heriloom tomatoe with burrata. taco. Which was a deconstructed raw fish dish.
Mains we shared the butchers cut was a bit fatty requested it medium rare. It came done one side. The other medium done. it was served with what looked like eggs benedict, but was a hash brown with a butter sauce? And a bowl of oily watercress Sides are advertised as a garden menu option, and cost a meal of themselves. carrots brocolli both 20$ ea. (It is just the vegetables with dressing). So a bit pricy for what you get. I wouldnt rush back to dine again with others. But in the future I hope the experience justifies the...
Read moreBooked a birthday lunch for 7 people and the wait times for food to be served was unacceptable for a restaurant that charges premium prices. Waited over 1 hour for our meals. During this time other tables around us had ordered and left, and we sat through new customers who arrived after us and also left. The waiter who served us was great, however, when we asked to see the Manager, the explanation given was that they were very busy. He really did not seem to care and laughed it off, possibly he has heard so many complaints he has become immune. If you're going to advertise and charge as a premium restaurant, maybe management should learn how to run a restaurant first before booking to a capacity where it was clearly unable to be managed by the kitchen. When your teenage nieces who usually don't notice time passing, start stating it's been over an hour, you know there's a problem. Our thought was that they had forgotten our order. When the food finally arrived, only four people received their meals, with the other three waiting an additional half hour, during which time those who received food had finished, and the side dishes only arrived. Remaining three could only just sit and watch and observe while the sides grew cold. We were hoping given the wait the food was going to be amazing, unfortunately, it was average. Very disappointing and a waste of a day. Arrived 1235pm and finally left at 3pm. The view and location of the table was lovely. If you have time to kill and a nice view is what you're looking for, and you're happy to pay premium for average food, then book here. Otherwise,...
