My wife and I visited today, arriving at 1:30. Frankly, the food is possibly the single best restaurant you will reasonably find outside extremely high-quality restaurants with similarly high prices.
With that said, we had what I can only understand as being a large miscommunication based around the understanding of the term "the kitchen is closed." My wife and I understand the term as meaning: "we will no longer be taking orders in the kitchen past a certain time (2:30)" and planned accordingly. The misunderstanding had us staying a half hour past closing all the while thinking we were well within opening hours.
I can't say I've heard of a restaurant where the kitchen and the restaurant close at the same time but I would like to apologise for our part of the misunderstanding.
At 2:28, a waitstaff member came to our table to tell us, "The kitchen is closing," and if we would like our pre-ordered desert. We said we would, and when he asked if we wanted it here or to go, we said here, please (there was no mention of closing or kitchen closing or anything at this time). We then wait, and it must have been 15-20 mins at least. Later, my wife told me to check on the status of the desert. I head to the front desk to enquire, I ask if we can have the desert, thinking there has been some misunderstanding of the timing. The waitstaff member informs me that he came to talk to us about the desert because "the kitchen was closing." My wife and I are confused at this point because why would we be offered desert only to be told we can not have it after asking within the time frame we were given. This mystery remains unsolved.
At this point, my wife is agitated by the state of affairs, asking if we can have the desert to go, perhaps, which is a service they offer. The waitstaff member goes and talks to some other staff sitting around together. At this point, I begin to wonder if "close the kitchen" means "close the restaurant." The waitstaff member returns and informs us we can not have our pre ordered ice cream to go because the kitchen is closed. My wife insists, perhaps unaware, that this ice cream may be made from scratch. The waitstaff member leaves, discusses, and returns. He tells us there is nothing he can do. My wife says she would like the ice cream deducted from the bill, the waiter disappears, and returns seconds later with prepared ice cream in takeaway containers. We leave after this only to be confused when we see them leaving right after us 20 minutes after "the kitchen closed."
Again, for our part in any misunderstanding, we are sorry, but it seems from our perspective that we were treated unfairly. I hope this is a simple error, and we can resolve it, on good terms, and return to enjoy the fantastic food...
Read moreThis was our anniversary dinner and we were visiting Claire, so I had booked well in advance. I was eager to experience Indii due to all the hype from friends about the North Adelaide branch and I had gone through the reviews.
Food- I won’t say it wasn’t typical Indian as no Indian restaurant in Adelaide serves that to cater to larger population. But I didn’t find the taste any different than a local Indian restaurant around any nook n corner of the city. The chicken tikka didn’t have a flavour of tandoor and the Goan fish curry didn’t have any notes of curry leaves, the curry taste overpowered the fish even though the fish was fresh n tender. Some curry had so much artificial food colouring that it left stains on fingers.
Honestly the taste was a let down given sweetness of the curries even though we had asked for medium hot. Our saving grace was onions n chilies that I had requested for.
The naans and rice were good, so was the pista kulfi that tasted pretty authentic.
Service- the service was average as one expects, nothing below or over. When I filled up the reservation confirmation form a couple of days before our visit, it asked if it was a special occasion and I mentioned it being an anniversary dinner. But I don’t think it was considered as the restaurant didn’t do anything to cater to the occasion, not even “Happy Anniversary” or “Thank you for choosing us for your special day” Why ask if it’s irrelevant?
Seating- even though the restaurant was pretty empty, we weren’t given an option to choose our seating. Given my body weight I felt pretty stuck up in the face to face sofa seating with very little space between my...
Read morethe only thing i have to share is disappointment, rude behaviour and lots of arrogance experienced from the manager. I booked almost 3 weeks in advance for family dinner for 1st OCtober 7PM. At the time of booking i was not infomed: the booking will be cancelled if i fail to confirm the booking on the day. i was not informed that the call will come from the manager with "no caller ID--private number" I reached at 6:55PM with 13 guests for dinner to be told that my booking is cancelled because i failed to confim the booking. The manager was rude and kept telling me " i personally called up twice and left message and because i did not answer or reply the booking is cancelled". He kept blaming me for cancellation. My phone automatically rejects unknown numbers. so when i did not pick up the phone twice at 2 different times the manager sent a voice message which came as text. I am writing the message which he claimed to have sent me-- as message 2txt " you missed a call from private number, who said " Hi this is Alan from in just latest. Could you please call me back. Thank you" I showed him the message and told him how would i know that it is regarding booking confirmation? He was dismiisive and kept blaming me for not answering/ replying to confirm. Absolute disgraceful behaviour, full of arrogance and very rude man. I regularly visit North Adelaide Indii flavour restaurant. would never go again there too. would give zero...
