Did I just pay $26 for instant noodle? - Never again!
I rarely write any reviews online but this restaurant gave me motivation, I feel like I need to warn people:
The taste of the soup is not even remotely close to ramen, instead it tastes just like some sort of Chinese noodle. Frankly the instant ramen you bought from supermarket tastes even better. The meat was too thick and tasteless. Egg was cold and a bit sour. Wasn't sure if the egg is supposed to be sour or it might have gone bad. At least with other ramen places I have tried the eggs were never sour. Not to mention the egg was very plain, not like it has been marinated.
The first red-flag was when the staff greeted me with some Japanese sentence and then straight off having a chat with someone else in Chinese, why pretend speaking Japanese when you are clearly not one? Second red-flag was the restaurant offers both Chinese food and Japanese food when the whole theme of the restaurant is Japanese. Everything just came off very unauthentic. The third red flag was when it was dinner time and there were only a couple of customers there. Oh well I told myself not to be too judgemental and ordered a bowl of ramen, but was left with distaste in my mouth
Overall the worst ramen I have tried. Feels like I would get much better outcome if I just buy the instant ramen from Woolies.
P/s: Reading other 1-star reviews looks like the owner isn't the type that can take constructive feedbacks to improve his/her product. Not to mentioned comes off very unprofessional. Well with this type of food quality and attitude I don't think you will be in...
Read moreThis is a bit of a late review (the last time we ate hereand reason I'm writing this review was 6 months ago), but we had been eating here for a little over a year with zero issues until the last 6 or so months. We're not sure if the owner or chef changed but there was a massive drop in quality. The servings of tempura over rice were extremely little compared to how it was in the previous times we came here, the chicken katsu was bland, and the salmon sashimi was still partially frozen in the middle and tasted very fishy! The staff got two of our orders wrong but did at least offer a refund for the sashimi and the incorrect orders.
It really is a shame because we absolutely loved going here before this. Even if it was an unlucky event It has led to us not dining here again after this experience.
edit: To the owner trying to say this didn’t happen, it very much did. Only reason I sent this so late and so early in the morning was because I was up late and looking at local ramen spots and remembered I forgot to leave a review. We did receive a refund in cash due to frozen sashimi, I unfortunately don’t have any photos or anything but I can say we we received it from a worker in a wheelchair who was working the register. She was very nice and understanding which is why I gave overall service 4 stars! I’m unsure if ownership has changed again since then but otherwise the experience is real and the two people in my family I was with can...
Read moreLike many others, for $24 I was expecting a lot more. I’ve eaten ramen all through Australia (not even comparing it to Japanese standards) and I can certainly get a better bowl for less than $18 in Sydney and Melb. Fine, Canberra surcharge.
I ordered the pork tonkotsu. A friend ordered the chicken one. The reason i gave 3 stars is because the noodles and pork were 5, but the broth was 1. Credit given when it’s due. Pork and noodles were very beautifully done, easily the best in Canberra. The broth however.... Like the other review, I too felt it was really salty (not in a good way) and watered down, and the broth just didn’t have enough depth. This nets out to a 3. Not to mention, the chicken ramen tasted more like a Vietnamese pho ga (not even joking, try it for yourself haha). I could be more critical and give it a 2 since it’s so expensive, but oh well.
I can see the owners response to the negative reviews here. I hope he/she can take in the advice and not be emotionally-charged with the responses. I understand this is your craft and your passion, but for the price, and easy access to better ramen joints in Canberra/Sydney, people just aren’t that gullible anymore and they know what’s better out there, or what diff styles of ramen would taste like. This joint would not survive in Sydney or Melb, I suppose they are still able to capitalise the lack of ramen choices in Canberra...
Great interior decor, the service was...
