Uppa Level Cafe — Restaurant in District of Canberra Central

I had terrible service at this cafe today. I ordered a long macchiato with soy milk and the two hash browns in the warmer. There was an order for a large number of coffees that was before me so I was prepared to wait patiently. However some more people came after me. After a little while I noticed that the people that came after me had received their coffees first, and that one was given the hash browns I had already ordered and paid for. I complained about having the food I paid for given to someone else and was refunded my money. Shortly after, the person serving came around the counter with a piccolo cup. He was presenting me the coffee and I said that I ordered a macchiato. He went back to the novice barista who was insisting that it had two shots of coffee in. I enquired whether the coffee was made with soy milk and the barista was trying to explain to me that a macchiato is not made with soy milk. I reminded him that I had placed the order with soy milk so i demanded a refund for the coffee as well. I had wasted my time, leaving empty handed and I was in a rush this morning. Popped in here for brunch on a quiet Saturday. There were only three customers sitting outside. Placed our simple order of 2 large lattes, breakfast burger & poached eggs with bacon. She repeated the order, omitting the burger. We corrected her. She asked “only one meal?” We repeated our order again. She repeated it correctly. We opted to eat outside. She said that she’d bring it out to us shortly.

Our coffees were delivered promptly and were perfect. Took 15 minutes for my eggs to arrive, without bacon! Thought I’d wait to say something when the other meal arrived. Started eating my (tepid & overcooked) eggs. I had almost finished my meal when the burger arrived. Didn’t bother asking about my missing bacon. At this point we’d both finished our large lattes.

The cafe was not busy, the server was not the only staff member, there was someone else doing the cooking. Our order was standard from their menu board. Not good enough. The 2 stars are for the coffee and the burger, even though it...

2019 edit - I believe the cafe has again changed owners and I am yet to revisit. I do though look forward to it. Stay tuned.

A welcoming place with delicious food.

I think this cafe changed hands in 2017 while keeping the same name. The new team are all awesome, provide simply amazing service and their specials are unbelievable. Ridiculously good coffee too, I can tell the barista has a real passion. After ordering my usual coffee I was offered a sample of cold drip coffee (not on the menu) which was made as a hobby. Keep it up, it was delicious!

Now open Saturday mornings until lunch. The sweet potato waffle is a must to check out - probably my favorite thing to eat at the moment and I think only available on Saturdays. Perfectly poached egg, masses of avocado and bacon on a giant sweet potato waffle with a dressed salad.

My recommendation is that if there is a Vietnamese special, give it a try while relaxing upstairs in the air...
