I had high expectations for this restaurant, but unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. We dined there with our 10-year-old daughter and were surprised to find that there were no menu options for children. As a result, we had no choice but to order the full tasting menu for her. While we understand this, we were shocked when the chef added chilli to her dishes, despite being informed that they couldn't accommodate a child-friendly meal—a courtesy that other comparable restaurants we've visited have easily provided. When we returned one of her spicy dishes untouched because she couldn't eat it, the waitress or chef casually remarked, "That's ok," as if no further explanation was needed.
The food itself was underwhelming and certainly didn’t live up to the restaurant’s 2-hat claim. Out of the five dishes we had, two were so overly salted that I had to drink two litres of water just to finish them, which led to multiple trips to the restroom. Speaking of the restrooms, I was taken aback by the presence of Christian artefacts on the walls. While that might not bother everyone, I found it odd and out of place. Furthermore, the décor throughout the restaurant, including the furniture and artwork, felt cheap and tacky.
Back to the food—though it wasn’t terrible, none of the dishes were particularly memorable. Typically, there’s at least one standout dish that leaves an impression, but here, nothing stood out or wowed us. Having previously dined at places like Les Jules Verne in the Eiffel Tower, a 1-hat restaurant, this experience didn’t even come close. There were no tablecloths, and we were asked to reuse our cutlery, which felt awkward with nowhere proper to rest it. To make matters worse, we weren’t given plates, which made the whole dining experience feel disjointed and strange.
The alcohol menu was limited to wine only, which was disappointing as I’m not a wine drinker but enjoy having a beverage when dining out. As a result, I was left with no options, much like my daughter.
Overall, this restaurant has a long way to go before it can truly claim to be a gourmet dining establishment or deserving of its 2-hat status. The trip out to Tuggeranong from the Inner North felt like a wasted effort.
It’s also worth noting that for the three of us (with no alcohol for me), the total bill came to just under $500, making it the most expensive dining experience we've had in Canberra. This includes other notable restaurants like Koto, Raku, Monster, Les Bistronomes, and Lantern Rooms, all of which offered a far better experience at a more...

We were not given clear details that each ticket cost was $155. When I booked, I was booking what I thought was a table for two in a romantic location for two costing a total of $155.
I hadn't realised that it was $155 for each person.
We arrived and were told it was a booking for one only. There was no possibility to have an additional seat.
We asked if we could move the dinner to another date. No. We asked if we gave some more money, if we could book on another date with one subsidised ticket. No. We were willing to pay another $155 plus $100 for another date. We could have sat outside and eaten one meal and shared it with my husband and me eating the dishes prepared for one person.
We were willing to share and it was a cold night!
It was an unwelcoming place in a cold space, in the corner with a child care centre on one side. Not romantic at all. One big long table of eight in a cold room!
We found the chef to be insufferable with a bad attitude.
We don't know what his food tastes like, but his manners, behaviour and attitude do leave a lot to be desired.
I rather go to the Sage Dining rooms, where they will always find room or at least negotiate or elsewhere for a better fine dining...
Read moreI never leave negative reviews, but I am this time to hopefully save one other person from having the same terrible experience we did.
If I could give this place a 0 star I would.
From the second we walked in I knew we’d made a mistake booking here and leaving our credit card! The fake plants, the fairy lights, the bad art, the terrible music, the shade sails on the roof. The entire set up was a disgrace.
The food was terrible to say the least. 5/7 dishes I only had one bite. Nothing was seasoned well and the flavours just didn’t work.
Half the courses were served in wooden dishes on dried beans or rice. I assume the rice / beans are reused and the dishes aren’t washed, as the rice one had bits of meringue all through it which was part of the course it’s served with. I also had fish roe on the bottom of my orange dish which doesn’t come with that course.
The only drinks they had aside from wine were Fanta and sprite!
The waitress was nice and attentive so nothing bad to say about her!
We are massive foodies and know what good food is and we’re so so happy to pay top dollar for food done well, but this I would pay money not to eat.
Don’t trust the good reviews, I don’t know what planet they’re from.
