Visited Jak & Mo for the first time, for lunch. The premises are great, really well-presented and stylish, and exuding a true cafe vibe. Although long and slim by design, there is still ample seating, both indoors and out, to accommodate plenty of patrons.
All our interaction was with the one young lady, who was friendly, professional, and happy throughout.
We ordered several drinks, namely the usual Flat White and Chai Latte, with my wife also selecting a Green Machine smoothie. For meals, we opted for the Salmon Stack and the Charred Peach & Chorizo Salad. The end product was a little hit-and-miss, as follows:
Chai Latte - pretty good and genuinely enjoyed.
Flat White - contradictory to the many great reviews, not rated highly by my coffee-fiend wife.
Green Machine Smoothie - loaded from top-to-bottom with ice, causing it to honestly taste like cold water with only a subtle hint of 'greens'.
Charred Peach & Chorizo Salad - well plated and presented. Enjoyed and finished, although the key ingredients were minimal, reducing the expected flavour.
Salmon Stack - this meal was on the menu as being on sweet potato, chickpea and corn fritters, while on the wall it was listed as being on sweet potato rosti. Regardless, it was my choice either way, and I decided to let myself be surprised. When the meal arrived, the salmon was sitting on something closer to sweet potato mash. Although it appears to have been shaped and fried, it was fundamentally a puree. That being said, this creation was still very tasty, with the salmon, mash, avo, and salad (great idea adding the sesame soy dressing, it was lovely) all meeting expectation. I would happily have this meal again.
On an aside, we finished our meals with slices of Pecan Pie and Vanilla Baked Cheesecake, both of which were excellent; decadent, creamy, and a great way to end proceedings.
Overall, Jak & Mo ticked many boxes, with only the inconsistency of the drinks and meals bringing this review down to 4 stars. That being said, even the weaker aspects weren't of great concern; coffee is very subjective, for one. I wish them all the best...
Read moreLocated in the main street of the lovely country town Gatton, Qld, in the beautiful Lockyer Valley just over hour from Brisbane or around 40mins from Toowoomba off of the Warrego Hwy. A fantastic small cafe with seating both inside and undercover outside. Love the decor of this cafe also, very modern industrial and they have spent a bit of time to make it right, a great feel good factor for me. The staff here are always very happy and helpful, with the food being superb and at very reasonable prices and quick service. All in all, highly recommend this cafe if you live near by or are travelling through the Lockyer Valley, you won't be dissapointed. Parking is directly outside in the main street ot around alsmost every corner of the town. No public toilets in this building, but clean public toilets are available throughout the town. Check opening times before travelling etc. or call before...

If you are ever looking for THE BEST Florentines in SE Qld - you have found the place at Jak & Mo Taste Co.
