Chinese Smorgasbord — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

Is this a good Chinese restaurant? I don’t think so as a Cantonese Chinese. All I wanted is a hearty yummy Chinese diner that serves legit Chinese... I meant the customer service spoke great Cantonese so I thought this would be a legit place to go to! However I was really disappointed. I felt like there were so many things they could have improved. For example, when I asked what do you recommend? Instead of telling me no I don’t know. Ask me couple questions about what do I like to start with to make some informed recommendations. I ordered one tomato egg dish (not on the menu), a very common dish for Chinese. They literally gave me a monster and soupy version of it that I had to question the validity of me being a Chinese. To serve me a dish like that is just not professional. I was so annoyed at it I just chucked it into the bin. Had dinner here recently as a family of 6.

Staff were great and accommodated us without a reservation which was appreciated.

Unfortunately the food was not great :(

Spring rolls were not as expected and seemingly didn't have vermicelli noodles within, and were slightly mushy. Wontons were very small balls of meat with minimal wrap.

All meats had been velveted for too long - so the texture was mushy. Veggies were likewise overcooked and mushy.

And sadly - all dishes lacked the usual flavours of Cantonese dishes - as if they had gone light on the usual aromatics, sauces & seasonings one would expect.

We ordered 6 different dishes - took most of it home, but ultimately didn't eat it.

Well!!! Hubby & I have been dining here for several years now - our Saturday evening dining out experience & absolutely always look forward to it. Everything is fresh, tasty & the atmosphere is fantastic too! All this time it didn’t occur to me to write a review & I finally did. I had a look at all the positive reviews other patrons left which is fantastic & saddened to see 1-2 dissatisfied people leaving nasty comments. Wow!
