While the restaurant offers a unique vegan experience, the messaging around its offerings could be clearer. The two neon signs "All lives matter" and "Meatless doesn't mean tasteless" are a playful nod to the establishment's ethos, but the menu items could use more explicit labeling.
Entries such as 'lamb shank' and 'roast duck' might be misleading for those unfamiliar with the concept of meat substitutes. It's important to ensure that all patrons understand that every dish served here is 100% vegan.
Moreover, the culinary approach leans heavily on imitating traditional pub meals. Although these are satisfying, the restaurant could potentially elevate its game by exploring original vegan dishes that don't necessarily mimic their meat-based counterparts. After all, vegan cuisine is a realm ripe with creativity and diverse flavors.
In sum, while the restaurant is distinctive in its theme, more transparency about its vegan nature and perhaps a rethinking of its menu could turn it into a destination that proudly stands on its vegan merits, rather than relying on a mimicry of traditional non-vegan dishes.
I approached the owner about this. He seem bemused and shared an overseas asian experience how restaurants who ladled themselves as Vegan, but upon entering the restaurant he found this was not the case. He was tricked and found this to be mistruthful/decived and he left the restaurant. He didn't understand that he had just done that to us. He said if he labled his food as Vegan people will not come, I said that...
Read moreHaha cheers for the reply, do you usually get upset and swear at customers or is this just a special one for me? I made amends to the review you cleared things up in regards to the staff member with constantly sniffling due to hay fever. At a time like this it's not such a bad thing questioning when you see someone with symptoms that the government has been telling us to look out for.
Anyway that still doesn't change my opinion on what happened that night, you say you were really busy as an excuse to how we were treated, yet there wasn't many people in at that time. Thank you for also taking the time out of your busy day to go through and read my other reviews.
hope you have a great afternoon champion 🤙
The food is really good, but the service wasn't the greatest tonight, the place was virtually empty, the girl came to clear our table took our glasses didnt take our empty plates, didn't come back for them, so I took them in for her, she looked at me and walked off, didn't even say thank you or how was your food. Must be having a bad night. The place isn't usually like this, bit upset about it, had a bad vibe tonight.
Note to staff, as customers we are the reason you have a job, so please look after us, so we feel welcomed and we want to return, otherwise myself and others will be finding somewhere else to be dining. Hope next time will be different, hopefully this review is taken in a positive way and next time we don't feel the same negative energy. Hope you all have a...
Read moreSo… I went to Doko Demo V in Burleigh Waters today. Not because I was hungry exactly—more like I was craving something I couldn’t name. Maybe comfort. Maybe escape. Maybe just... proof that something beautiful still exists in this empty, chaotic world. 🌑🖤
It’s all vegan, which somehow feels poetic. No blood on the plate. Just plants, reimagined into memories you thought you’d buried. I got the Taipei 101 burger and it was like… biting into a dream of what love might taste like if it didn’t leave. 🍔💔
I sat alone, of course. At a little wooden table in the corner. The sunlight hit my coffee in this soft, sad way and for a second, I forgot the weight of the world. Their Bang Bang Popcorn Chicken? Crispy, like the walls I put up. Spicy, like the pain I try to laugh off. And the butter chicken curry—so warm, so complex. It reminded me that being soft doesn’t mean being weak. 🌶️🌫️
The place was… peaceful. Nature everywhere. Bamboo. Greenery. It felt like a quiet sanctuary in a loud world that won’t shut up. The staff smiled at me like I was a person who mattered. I almost smiled back. Almost. 😔🌿
They serve breakfast all day. I don’t believe in time anyway, so that felt appropriate. Taro pancakes and acai bowls for people who want to pretend mornings aren’t terrible. 🕯️🍓
Doko Demo V isn’t just a café. It’s a moment suspended outside the noise. A gentle reminder that some things—some places—still hold space for tenderness. Five stars. Because sometimes, stars are the only light...
