George's Pizzeria MAUDSLAND — Restaurant in Gold Coast City

We came here for the first time as our usual pizza shop was closed. The prices seemed a bit steep but we thought we would give it a go. As there was a seating area outside we told them we would just stay and eat there as we have two young kids and it was getting late. One of the waitresses told me that they are BYO so if we wanted to get any drinks from the supermarket that's fine. My husband went and bought some juices for our kids and a couple of soft drinks for us as the range in the fridge of the restaurant was quite limited. When our food was brought out the 2nd younger waitress was incredibly rude, said "I hate to be the bearer of bad news but we don't normally allow you to bring soft drinks in because we sell them". I proceeded to tell her that the other waitress had told us we were allowed to, but she said that's only for Alcohol. But I know I was specifically told "from the supermarket" and my husband said he didn't see alcohol in there. This wouldn't have been an issue if she had just been polite, but she walked over with such an attitude, didn't smile, her tone was very condescending. We honestly felt so unwelcome after that and didn't enjoy our food. There was nothing wrong with the pizza at all, but the way she spoke to us just put a bitter taste in our mouth. We felt like we needed to leave as quickly as possible. I'm not someone to ever complain or write bad reviews, most of the time I just cop it when I get bad service, but I can't stand when people are rude can't just word things in a more considerate way. She needs a lesson in customer service, and some interpersonal skills. Luckily we get amazing friendly service at Neptune's Pizza in Gaven for better prices and excellent food. We...

I'm a bit perplexed here. I feel like sometimes George's can be a solid 4 but sometimes also can be a 2. Quite aware that every business can have off days, but we have been ordering from Georges for over 8 years. Sometimes the pizza is quite good, sometimes quite lacking. Sometimes , it seems to depend on Georges mood. Sometimes, we ONLY order from Georges, as there are no other real options. The new place that opened up behind 7-11 is no improvement. So yeah , the pizzas can be decent, but I guess the biggest thing for me , is what Georges do when things go wrong. When they get an order wrong , or under/over cooked or the special requirements wrong. There is quite often little to no accountability and often we have been so offput by George's attitude we stay away for months. So because of this inconsistency and sometimes hostile attitude towards customer complaints, they get a two, too bad as the good pizza on good days is so easily a four if not a five.

My family/friends and I will not be ordering from here anymore, which is a shame as the food is usually very nice.

A cockroach or beetle was found in my pizza. I went to the restaurant to discuss the matter in good faith and to bring it to their attention quietly. I did not request a refund or a freebie - this is a favourite neighbourhood store and I wanted to do the right thing.

I was met with sarcasm and deflection by management/owners and was even asked if ‘I knew what restaurant I was in’ and ‘if I had the right place’ after specifying what I regularly order. They said it wasn’t possible and gave me a thumbs up, ushering me out and dismissing the issue. A sarcastic ‘thank you buddy’ is all I got.

I don’t think being treated like a fool was necessary, and rather than take issue to it, I’ll attach photos of the insect as proof and encourage people to get cleaner food elsewhere.
