Like walking along a beach and finding a beautiful shell amongst the flotsam of the high tide mark, discovering Kemuri in a non descript part of Carrara was a joy. The people who we dealt with there were impeccable, friendly and helpful. ( I think a husband and wife). There was seating inside and out with a warming intimacy. The music was authentic and a nice addition rather than a dominant force. The table was clean. But the food! It was transformative and full of joy. We were there for lunch and shared our dishes. We ordered the eggplant miso bao buns, agedashi tofu and Kakiage bowl. The bao was delightful, bursting with flavour and texture. The agedashi tofu was sublime. We could have floated away in a cloud of pleasure were it not for the Kakiage bowl to come. The coating on the tofu was not like anything I had had before. It was crunchy but almost meringue like in its textural complexity. The broth it was served in was deep and rich and very satisfying. Wow! The kakiage bowl was a rice bowl with tempura vegetables with nori seaweed and dashi soy sauce. The tempura had not a hint of oil and was simply perfect. And not to knock the small block of shops at all, but to find such an exquisite meal in such relatively humble surroundings was fantastic. Kemuri was busy but efficient and the warmth of the hosts outstanding. The posted photo is of the Kakiage bowl. Sadly we did not take other photos as we were enjoying the food...
Read moreAn absolute hidden gem in Carrara, with such good food. We have dined in occasionally; it’s a really nice environment and the owners are great. With young kids though we are much likelier to get takeaway/delivery and it’s always fresh, perfectly packed and delicious. The whole family loves the rice bowls and the katsu curry, as well as the mazesoba. Definitely recommend dining in if you can as they have an excellent wine selection and certain dine in specials and dishes. The recently opened cafe next door is also great! A quiet spot with interesting Japanese dishes for breakfast and lunch and a great matcha or hojicha latte. It’s unassuming but delicious food, great ingredients and thoughtfully prepared. very good...

The unusual name of the Restaurant, might throw some people off.
Limited inside and outside seating. So, reservations would be recommended.
Wasn’t planning on having lunch here. Saw the “Open” Sign outside and thought I would give them a try. Was shown a seat, then advised that they don’t actually open until midday, it was 11.45 am.
Was advised I could order a drink and will need to wait to order from the Menu once the Chef arrives.
After a 15 minute wait, I was able to place an order.
Had Tasmanian Scallop and Pork Dumplings with Chilli Oil. Presentation and taste were good. Although had Very little in the way of Scallops was mostly...
