ABSOLUTE PERFECTION - an 11 out of 10! We ordered 4 dishes to share for lunch - soft shell crab curry, 2 bao buns (bulgogi beef & pork belly), beef bulgogi okonomiyaki with bonito flakes (a thick Japanese vegetable pancake with beef and bonito on top) and crispy chicken pieces with bbq plum sauce. The soft shell crab curry flavour profile was to the same exceedingly high standard as that of Spirit House on the Sunshine Coast, but so much closer to home!
Not only was every dish extremely well-balanced and perfectly cooked and flavoured on every level, but these guys take so much care in their presentation which is visually stunning. On top of this, this place roasts and blends their own coffee in view of the dining area with their coffee also being top notch - a place that has both amazing coffee and amazing food and they do this time and time again to a consistently high standard. The last 6 months have been extremely disappointing, either the meat is too burnt or the food is not fresh. Today I ordered from 'uber eats': Avocado Smash-$17, it tasted so bitter it was inedible and so greasy. I also ordered the tabouleh salad-$17, the greens were not fresh and too many red capsicums. Overall everything tasted terrible. I think most of the 'good' reviews come from locals and business around them. It's the local spot to go so people are attached to this place. I'm sure they still have their good days when the food is fresh and the right staff is working. But for me even the coffee is not good anymore. I have been disappointed every time I have ordered anything from here for the last 6 months. And I will not be returning. Very sad, because it's one of the only nice places around this area. Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited Blaktan Coffee Kitchen with my mum, specifically looking forward to trying the acai bowl. Unfortunately, we arrived 30 minutes after the breakfast menu ended, and we were told no exceptions could be made. We left feeling very disappointed and still hungry.
While I understand the need for menu cut-off times, I believe a bit of flexibility would have gone a long way in creating a positive experience for us. Itās disappointing that something as simple as accommodating a small request wasnāt possible, especially given that it likely wouldnāt have caused much inconvenience.
