Visited North Lakes Sports Club for the first time to enjoy a group lunch.
My overall impression of the club was positive. It was bustling with people, had ample seating throughout, several dining options, a large and well-stocked bar, and plenty of pokies. If anything, parking may be limited during peak times.
We booked a table in the Banyan restaurant and, after being seated, had to wait quite some time to be served. The gent that approached us was very pleasant, although he didn't specify why he was there, so we ended up directing the conversation, ordering food and drinks at the same time.
The meals and drinks were promptly served, and our entire group enjoyed their selections. These ranged from my Seafood Risotto, an unusually cheesy yet really flavoursome option, through to a mega-sized pork belly, decent fish and chips, and an attractive home-styled lamb roast and veges. Our drinks were generic beer and softdrink choices, so not much to say there. They were cold and tasted good!
Once the meals were finished, we unfortunately sat and waited for an extended period of time, with no service offered at all. The table remained full of empty plates, no second round of drinks was able to be ordered, and dessert, which had been selected by those interested, also had to wait.
When the gent finally returned, I mistakenly presumed it was to do all of the above. Instead, he politely explained that they were closing in one minute, so could we possibly complete payment. I therefore told him we wanted dessert and had waited patiently to order these. Luckily, he was happy to oblige and, five minutes later, the Black Forest Panna Cotta and Tiramisu arrived. Both were enjoyed, although the Panna Cotta was much closer to being Chocolate Mousse. Still tasty but not what I'd expected.
Overall, the venue is spacious, clean-and-tidy, and offers plenty of drink, food, and entertainment choices. Meals and drinks met expectation but were definitely at the pricing high end. My mate's membership saved us $23, a nice touch.
Service was friendly throughout, but the lengthy periods of waiting, while watching 4-5 staff members roaming the area cleaning tables, setting tables, etc., was rather frustrating. This was the one big disappointment of our visit and the reason I didn't offer 5 stars. That being said, I'm willing to return another day to hopefully enjoy improvements...
ย ย ย Read moreIโm writing to share the appalling manner in which I was approached when I arrived at the North Lakes Sports Club.
I was scanning my card on entry when I was approached by Cherie - Supervisor by her name badge but certainly no supervisor by her actions!
She approached with another elderly lady and asked me to remove the beret I was wearing or did I have a medical reason for wearing it to which I was taken a back one for the manner in which I was approached with others around making it uncomfortably awkward that I replied yes I have cancer embarrassed I walked away with my mother upset but more angry at the way it was handled.
Cherie then continued to walk over to the cafe area where there were staff and loud enough that I could hear from the ATM area she says why does this always happen to me further making me feel like I had been ridiculed to make a point to the old lady that insisted she wear her red beret to which she did anyway! If she has had this situation before that didnโt go so well you would think you would have taken away points on how to manage should you encounter a sensitive situation again obviously not!
I left and made a comment to Cherie that she needed to work her delivery and do better to which she responded that she was sorry but the old lady had been yelling at her which is no justification of her actions so because she was yelled at I was made to feel like an example set and no accountability on Cherie part that in the sensitive nature that some people are going through medical treatments that a day out is something to keep positive in difficult times she certainly left a very bitter taste and negative encounter with North Lakes Sports club if this is how you treat people I recommend a course in empathy and maybe customer service & leadership skills! ย ย ย Read moreAttended this venue for a birthday lunch. We were a booking of 30, which I know has logistical challenges. Initially the service seemed adequate, orders taken against patron's names for what we assumed would be ease of delivery and payment. However, issues started to arise once I tried to become a member. Apparently there has been a transition to a new system, and currently they cannot process memberships until December. I thought this would not be too much of an issue, as surely a venue wouldn't punish it's patrons for this problem with the system? Both times I went to the bar I had to argue the point that I shouldn't pay for one of their supplier's mistakes. Our meals arrived in a timely manner (though it was by no means packed to the rafters) and while I would say the Pork Belly was fairly priced, I cannot say the same for the Chicken Parmigiana. Not only does it cost the same as the pork belly, but once you're done with the Aldi grade crumbed breast (nothing against Aldi value) you're left to tackle not one but TWO pieces of brocollini, and a burnt gratin that could be mistaken for a 50c piece if you aren't paying attention. To be honest the kids meal we got for my son was the best value, once we wrangled through the arduous process of redeeming the drink and dessert. Unfortunately the well thought out system of names-to-meals was abandoned, with staff just randomly walking around the table calling out the name of the meal like 'calamari' is a unique identifier. The only stars here are for the children's play area, which was well equipped and well supervised. The bitter after-taste to the whole affair was the fact that due to the issue with the membership system, we had to pay non-member prices, which has encouraged me to remain a...
